Ok daniel, I think issue is linked to several kind of file for this games

There is some bk2 files, mp4 and ucas/pak files

I'm not a pro , what I'll do for this game :

compress *.bk2 with xtool:c1792mb:mbk2:df20p+zstd:-ultra:22:T0
Compress *.mp4 with srep_new:392+LZMA-MT
Compress *.exe *.dll *.txt *.ini *.tps *.ttf with : xtool:mzlib+xtool:dd3+razor_stdio
Compress *.pak with xtool:mzlib+xtool:dd3+bcm
Other files with xtool:mzlib+srep_new:392+LZMA-MT

I've started to batch I'll see tomorrow morning the results

^bk2 are kb2n, so bink plugin is useless. This affects pretty much all newer unreal engine games (ue5+).

Hello everyone, maybe someone here knows the correct compression method for the games Nobody Wants to Die & Blood bowl 3? I checked using a scanner and the results were using Kraken, but when I wanted to check the matching libraries, none of them matched. Here is a sample file if needed:

Did the latest version of Mortal Kombat 11 drop LZNA compression in favor of Oodle Kraken? Currently working on a 32mb sample (from build 10154284) and testing with xtool v0.8.9. Was digging through some other repacks and found one that used a version of xtool 2019 (with xtool.exe CRC-32: f6734f4f) and oo2core_6_win64.dll (v.6.X?, CRC-32: 8e71942a, attached to the post as I haven't seen it before or have a record of its checksums in my own collection), though I wasn't able to pick up any additional streams, at least when testing on my sample.

It's true there's no harm in learning, but posting sub-optimal results (in such large numbers to boot) is hardly worthy of commendation. Contributions of that nature shouldn't be encouraged in my mind, lest you wish to breed and normalise a culture of sub-par work.

I have made a small impact on these sub-optimal results that you mention, but the truth is there's a disproportionately large number of titles that aren't that interesting to analyse and repack, and I've lacked the interest to tackle them. I'm by no means claiming to be a great repacker, of my current body of publicly available work (recorded at the time of publication for each), only 351/464 (75.64%) are record breakers (using other existing published results, with their choice of components as a base for comparison, and including lossless (if I made a lossy offering) to determine eligibility for record status), 27/464 (5.82%) are determined to be equal as a result of variance due to non-deterministic solutions used. Unfortunately then that leaves a massive 86/464 (18.53%) of published works being sub-optimal (largely due to either avoiding heavy compression, like for oodle titles for the sake of install-time, disproportionate (in regards to the install size of the title) additional read/write operations post-install, or a simple lack of ability to re-compress/decrypt assets) but you sure as heck won't find me posting those sub-optimal results here. I don't post the majority of my work here simply due to the fact there isn't much competition to encourage that sort of posting. I choose to just post the more interesting compressions that require specific tinkering to properly process, since I believe that's the sort of content that would be appreciated.

Your defense of his posting, at least to me seems to indicate you're supporting those practices, but hey if I'm misinterpreting that, I'm fine with admitting I'm at fault. In my eyes you can either support or condemn an issue, and I don't interpret this as the latter.

I fully support LILU in learning and striving to be one of the greats, but posting en masse a large swath of unhelpful and sub-optimal approaches for a variety of titles isn't helpful, least of all for future members who wish to learn. Asking specific questions, which might also be of assistance to future members is a much better approach, at least in my opinion.

I'll preface this last point, since you seem to be interpreting my comments as inflammatory that my goal is not to insult you or your friends, I'm just laying out what I see. I know you're part of a collective and I'm sure communication is tricky, but if I, by far a novice repacker is besting recent releases with very little effort, that doesn't indicate to me that you're as focused on achieving as optimal a result as you seem to be claiming to pursue.

Finally can I just ask you cool it with the insults? It's not very productive to conversation, and only results in escalating tensions, which I'm sure nobody wants.

To add something actually usefull to the discusion here and some information to the user LILU...

If using DSG you can add a additional parameter to xtool command line like ":lib_#" which just tells DSG to use another oodle library which might work better than the other which is actually the same version but not the very same version (if you know what I mean). To specify this a bit more, we can just take oodle library v2.9.10 for example. Currently we have two libraries of this version. The second one (named here as "core_2.9.10\oo2core_9_win64_2.dll") is a "leaked" library from the oodle SDK, which was never shipped by any game actually. This library will achive much better results then the other v2.9.10 library (in this case "core_2.9.10\oo2core_9_win64.dll"). This is simply due to the fact that the leaked library from the SDK has significant changes and some games were compiled with this specific library, so the other library doesn't work well simply because of the library code changes. But this also means that using the second library version inflationary does not give you automatically better results for games which were compressed with the first library. So this goes in both directions.

Included libraries in DSG are stored here: Resources\Win64\ADDONS\Libraries\Oodle\Oodle_Libs. 7z
There you can also see for which libraries you can use the additional parameter ":lib_#" (# = oo2core_#_win64_#.dll)

I suggest to use XToolUI (xtool.exe + xtoolui.dll) to test around with game files and different libraries so you know which library is the optimal to use. Some time ago I wrote some informations for beginners about this case. You should read this

Notes:
- I have extracted all the bink videos from the game files. In my previous test using plain xtool with bms plugin and bink plugin was not working correctly for some reason. That's why I extracted and removed the files out of the game files with xtool. I attached xtl file for which you can extract the files aswell with xtool (use xtool extract command). This is why input is bigger in this case. Normal game size is about 100GB + 32GB extracted videos. Like I said the 32GB video files were removed from the game archives so the zero'd parts of the game files will compress with like ratio 0%, so the result (output) is the very same like as you weren't extracting the video files.
- The attached xtl file is compatible with game version 1.1.1. As long as future game updates does not modifiy any of the game files (diff-like) this xtl file should work.
- xtool command order for xtl file: 1. extract, 2. erase, 3. decode (after install with xtl file).
- I decided to not extract & process WEM files because I was just too lazy, sorry. In the end it doesn't give a big size loss anyway. This is only important for repackers anyways, but they know by now.
- To make a bms plugin use the bms script with bms2xtl with the following settings:

AC Mirage has no shipped oodle library :confused: Also for AC Mirage use 2.8.4 (same like Valhalla, both latest versions).

However fyi, for 95% of all newer games you can be safe of using oodle library 2.9.5. For the rest use 2.9.10 or 2.9.10 lib2 or even older libraries like 2.8.x (mainly ubisoft titles).

Here on this forum we have a grand collection of libraries which were collected over the years (some are missing, I have to upload them sometime).

If you're going to use oo2rec tools you have to rename oo2core_8_win64 and oo2core_9_win64 to oo2core_7_win64 (or below) to make them work with oo2rec tools.

Use zlib+reflate for a little ratio increase. Using WemTool for a bulk of the larger wems leads me to a minimum size of 22GB with EN VO only. JP VO + Credits video ripped.

Also looks like you can rip chinese language out if you want. I played a bit with ripped language and it's working until now.

How to:
Use quickbms + unreal_tournament_4_0.4.27e_paks_only.bms script and extract only WEM and BNK from "pakchunk0-Windows.pak" (make a backup of this file).

Go to extracted folder and delete all files you want to keep (only keep Chinese files/folders).

Zero all files inside extracted folder
FOR /R %%a IN ("*.wem") DO (fsutil file setzerodata offset=0 length=%%~za "%%a")

Also looks like you can rip chinese language out if you want. I played a bit with ripped language and it's working until now.

How to:
Use quickbms + unreal_tournament_4_0.4.27e_paks_only.bms script and extract only WEM and BNK from "pakchunk0-Windows.pak" (make a backup of this file).

Go to extracted folder and delete all files you want to keep (only keep Chinese files/folders).

Zero all files inside extracted folder
FOR /R %%a IN ("*.wem") DO (fsutil file setzerodata offset=0 length=%%~za "%%a")
FOR /R %%a IN ("*.bnk") DO (fsutil file setzerodata offset=0 length=%%~za "%%a")

Use quickbms reimport feature

libraries are required
gdeflate.dll + (dstorage.dll) + (dstoragecore.dll)

Maybe can somebody please explain reasoning behind God of War Ragnarök method that is posted by xtool creator on Patreon...because it is not that this method does not work, rather I don't see why it is required.

Is there any xtool plugin that I missed for CoD WII? Because this game has lz4 streams, confirmed...and no problem using xtool:lz4 but expanding only if I use very old 0.12 version of xtool. Anything newer, like 0.8.9, nothing is expanded. Ok, plugin is required for lz4 if using newer versions I guess, I tried to make one but failed...
Did anyone managed to successfully use newer xtool (0.7.x or higher) in any way on this game or should I give up on this with new xtool versions? Thanks in advance, regards.

Games in unreal engine doesn't ship oodle library anymore. Use 2.8.14 up to 2.9.5. They should work.

Hi,

I'm having this issue (https://dyren.lol/2024-10-09_14-34.png) while decompressing the archives. It always happens at 41%. The files were compressed with DiskSpan and used this method for the *.vpp_pc files: xtool:mreflate+srep_new+lolz. I also tried using installers which use the Setup.dll file from DiskSpan, but pretty much the same issue happens. I also tried recompressing the files with the same method, but I got the same issue. I've been trying to find a solution to this for like 2 days and I'm really out of ideas. If someone could give me a hint on what could be the problem I would really appreciate it.

Setting ldmfTempPath= to " .\ " worked, thanks a lot!! It was set to "{app}" before. I feel kinda dumb, didn't know that the solution was this simple.

Greetings. I am having trouble understanding how to properly compress newer UE4/UE5 games, like Sparking Zero for an example.

I checked one of the games files with the Oodle scanner, and it picks up Kraken. I check the executable, and it picks up a key. I go into DISKSPAN GUI and choose the UE plugin for XTOOL with kraken enabled and the key included in the compression method section, with Oodle library v2.9.5. This did not work and it was no different than just compressing with srep & lzma. What was I missing in my steps?

Did you use the correct key?
Did you use the correct oodle library?

I checked. UE5 archives are enrypted, you need a key to decrypt them. The key is

I have not tested much, but you could rip JP/EN language and 720p/1080p/2160p movies aswell to get a bit better ratio.

I simply have no time atm to test deeper.

Not encrypted, but lzham. File table is encrypted though. Spiritovod shared a bms script on cs (ue4 keys topic) that simply extracts data - great for data mining. Reimport doesn't work due to the nature of the lzham used. FitGirl was kind enough to give me a little bit of info about it.

You can save even more space by using an actual codec for unity plugin and the correct lz4 library.

Tick verbose mode and set up unity plugin without any level settings. This way you can see what level you should use. Nowadays unity bundle assets using lz4hc with level 12 mostly.

At least one of the ogg files for which oggre has problems. I am not in the mood to test over 30k files.

Spanish (ES) language files ripped

This title was an interesting one as the language files (stored as fsb containers) do not have any consistent ordering within the Unity resource archives, majority. An AI/ML model, specifically an ASR model was used in conjunction with some Python scripting to determine whether a given input contained English or Spanish dialogue. Approx. 200 files had to be processed manually as they contained only a single word, or had a heavy post-processing filter applied, making it difficult to get a definitive result, overall success rate was approx. 94%. English was preferred in analysis to reduce likelihood of English files being accidentally misidentified and ripped.

Final total size of archives: 965 MiB

Based on v1.042, GOG Release

I estimate there might still be a few Spanish files I was not able to identify, with more aggressive packing techniques I think it's definitely possible to reduce overall size to ≤900 MiB.

Attached is a checksum file with all ripped files, you're welcome.

Bink videos are also unable to be packed despite being KB2j variants, either with the xtool plugin or with bpk, bpk refuses outright, xtool plugin at least detects the streams, decoding with the RAD Video Tools shows no visual or audio artefacts strangely.

Attached are some modding scripts that are useful if anyone wants to dig around the files further, I know the original XBOX release had assets compressed with LZ4 (From watching GDC talks where Insomniac developers directly reference this) however I was unable to find any LZ4 streams in either the asset archives or in the decompressed assets, zlib streams are largely in the toc/dag files from testing.

Further gains could likely be made by compressing the audio, encoded with the *.wem structure. Spent a long time trying different approaches, very disappointed with how this one turned out but I've got quite the backlog of projects and alas I have to move on.

As for the WEM files. I tested a bit with the language files and you will gain just a small amount of ratio even if you group+squash the files into one single file.

Just make sure to exclude WEM files which are less than 100kb in size if you process them. There is always a magic line for the WEM files for which - if they less than size X - processing them will yield in zero ratio or sometimes even in negative ratio.

I feel very silly now! It just so happens out of the 3 videos I sampled all had the KB2j signature, talk about rough luck. I need to start packing WEM files, never had massive luck with them due to the annoying packing process, appreciate the advice!

Don't hassle with the language files. Imo they aren't worth to process with wemtool (just ~15mb per language if you skip all files below 100kb).

You can extract the WEM files with this tool I guess (I use another tool without 2GB limitation)

A bit messy but if you get any errors with that 2GB file limitation, just search for the first riff wavefmt stream somewhere in mid-file offset, then split this file into two halfs and use the extractor if you don't have other tools by hand. Like I said this is a bit messy but should work as a workaround. After split and extracting WEM files, erase WEM files with xtool erase command. Afterwards just merge the two files back into one file, then decode back WEM files afterwards with xtool. The rest is up to you.

If I remember correctly the total save with processed WEM files is about 200-250MB in total without language files (input ~1.27 GB).

Any tools/idea from precompressing old TRS game series? Aka TRS2004 to 2012 games used *.ja archives. Newer TRS2012 SP1 and newer 20xx versions use (probably uncompressed) only *.tzarc game files.

Very old TRS2004 related *.ja extractor added and *.ja archive sample from the TRS2012 game.

In last stage, the overall best methods from *.ja files:

RAZOR only (stdio version) with 1023mb dictionary size, the files shrunked to 4.22GB.

Any rest files use in: xZLib/xtool+msc+delta+srep+lolz or xZLib/xtool+RAZOR

Output size differences abysmal, less than ~0.5MB's compressed size. (RZ used 256MB dict size. Larger probably get in 0.5-2MB extra size reduction.) The game not easily fit to onto ONE DVD5 sizes.

Based on what is this zlib? Just because somebody included xtool into compression method it does not means that xtool is infact used, nothing is expanded, it just gets skipped and it does nothing. You will get exactly the same "gain" if not using xtool:zlib at all, all gain (small) is from srep+lolz, xtool:zlib is just placebo.
This game uses xtool:kraken (pakchunk51-WindowsNoEditor.pak) but you have to decrypt it with xtool unreal plugin, use known key.
