Buzzing sound from V9 PS2

Have had a V9 ps2 floating around for a while with an odd problem. I initially got it off a mate as it had stopped reading dvd-r's. It was fitted with an M2 and romeo mod. After adjusting the dvd laser pot by 10% of overall resistance and doing a bit of height adjustment it leapt back into life. In fact it worked so well that I decided to ditch the M2 and stick in a Matrix Infinity and keep it as my own deck. This is where the problems started.

Basically when you switch the ps2 on you get a loud buzzing sound. I opened up the dvd drive to watch what was happening. When you switch the ps2 on the laser carriage moves to the centre of the dvd drive, hits a microswitch and should then move to the start reading disc position. This one is ignoring the microswitch and continually tries to travel to the centre of the dvd drive. If you force the laser back it will stop buzzing and happily read a dvd or cd no problems.

Have now moved all mods but the romeo mod and still the same problem so it's not to do with the mod chip.

I was wondering if the romeo mod is causing it. Is there a specific diameter of wire you should use for the romeo mod as it looks like it has a bit of awg 30 kynar wire supplying the 5V.

Can anyone help shed light on the problem?

Regards an thanx in advance

Doh!! This is typical. Have just fixed it. I knew as soon as I posted I would sort it.

It was either
1)a badly fitted Romeo mod wire (Removed and refitted tidily)
2)A solder splash on the vias on the underside of the board.

Thanx anyway

I was going to say theres a joint or splat or otherwise it could be a voltage leak! making a high pitch noise.

High pitched noise???? No, I explained what the buzzing sound was in my first post. Not a high pitched noise but the noise of the worm drive gear slipping as the Laser carriage carried on trying to travel to the centre of the drive even when its hit it.

I suspect it was a link across one of the vias but I did a total cleanup job on the board as a whole and resoldered the Romeo mod so cannot be sure what cured it.
