Angry Windows XP Pro & Freezing

Hey guyz....

I got an issue... and for the life of me, can't figure out what the problem is. I do a fresh install of Win XP Pro, reformat it and everything... it works, and when I install anything hardware, such as my video driver, windows will lock up on next reboot at the splash screen. No logs, no nothing. Ya can get into it using safe mode, but even if ya uninstall the driver/device, it still won't boot normally. It even does it if I install my webcam, which is odd. Didn't start doin it til a few days ago, which is why I think it's a hardware problem. Never had a prob. installin before, and now, boom. Any ideas? No bios settings have been changed, or "NEW" hardware added. And it's from a clean install, so it's CANT be a software issue.

Puzzled....

KC

Take each hardware out, if you have onboard GFX then take out your Graphic Card, if not leave that as your only additional hardware. Then install driver, then put in the next one, say network card or modem or whatever and install driver, then repeat. Until it crashes.

Then when it crashes the last hardware you installed is probably the culprit.

I have tried that... it crashes when ANYThING is installed... any hardware.... it freezes. I dunno... I think I have a bad disk.... it's my backup disk that I burned, but I don't have my original anymore. I still got the ISO image, but it might be corrupt now...

It's an ISO of my Windows XP Pro disk... I purchased Win XP Pro a while back, and made an ISO image of the disk, which I keep on a backup hard drive, along with all my other "Goodies"... when my CD becomes damaged from scratches, I create another using the ISO image.

Why don't you have your original Windows XP disc anymore? If it was damaged then call M$ for a replacement and do a fresh install from that.

you problem may not be related to windows at all , i used to have a similar freezing peroblem which i discovered was my CPU overheatin g , check your fan is powerfull enough to keep your cpu cool and that you have heat gel in between your cpu and fan , this can cause freezing a lot and ultimatley your CPU to overheat and SIZZLE like mine did.

Just one other possibility anyway

Had this problem too, it was the ram in the end.

You could try removing sticks and see if that helps
