factory refurbished ps2

Hi,

Have you guys had any experiences with factory refurbished ps2s? Are they any good/reliable? On EBGames.com, ther were some mixed reviews about it. Some people love it, and some people hate it. I welcome your opinions and experiences.

erm well its hit and miss really sonys referb ps2s are good specially if your ps2 has died or something they offer 6 months warranty and swap yours for like 50 quid bargin.

ive had manymanymanymany exp. w/ refurbished ps2's. my 1st ps2 was always fine til i put the no solder chip in it, then the laser died w/in weeks. sent to sony, "fixed" with a new laser(so they said) and came back working fine---til i put the chip back in. then laser=dead w/in less than a month...sent to sony "fixed" etc etc etc. i got on a first name basis with the guys at the post office (ultimately i demanded sony send me a totally difft console -hoping it'd be a v7-it wasnt..they sent a difft v4) so i traded my v4 to a friend for his v7. hes never had a problem w/ the v4 w/ no mod. i sent the v7 to spedmetal for a mod a year ago, played the hell out of it and have had no problems to this day. to make a long story short, the day i took the v7 to the postoffice to sent to norcal, dave (the postman) saw m come in the door with a ps2 in hand and said-----"AGAIN????" REMANU-FRACTURE

hehe thats what i mean there hit and miss it depends what version, there engineers are lazy they just fix whats wrong with it and send it back out. Lucky there warranty

I dont buy anything used unless its where i can check it out.@barkroc2, The no-solder mod had nothing to do with the laser dieing as it only opens and closes the tray. It has nothing to do with the laser. They just tried to push a crappy used console on you.

It is v7 refurbished. It's the only reason I'm even considering it. The guy says it's not necessarily used just because it's refurbished. The only other ones available (new) are either v9 or v10. It's so hard to decide. :-)
If you open up the console to install a mod chip, it would kill the 6 month warranty, right? So, the warranty is meaningless as I plan to get it chipped as soon as I get it.

warlock..every time the chip "forced" the tray open, you could hear (across the room even) the laser firing away looking for a disc. right until you put a disc in and the tray is closed again.

We get many many ....many people sending in the EBgames refurbished PS2's, they normally work very well. The only concern I would have would be it you end up with a v1-v4.

Actually, the one in question is from ebay, which is why I'm more skeptical.

ive bought many refurbs from ebay or i think they was refurbs they have been open and the guy who sold them sold alot of them all the ones i bought was v6-7s though they all worked fine on no solders

lol, It depends on which boot disc you are using. Some older GS2's, 1.93 thru 2.15 i think, would stop the disc from spining so it wouldnt have this problem. I have seen the tray eject so hard it would jam it open sometimes even slinging the front tray clip off lol.

I've also bought refurbs from eBay and I mooded it with an Infinity. I then sold this to my friend, and it hasn't had one single problem. Just because it's eBay, doesn't mean it's dodgy. If you take your time to look at the sellers reputation and whether he's sold any in the past, you'll be fine...
