Unhappy backups not working

i got a v7 with a matrix infinity, installed it myself. it boots up fine, but only my originals are working. i've tried backups of ps2 (colin mcray rally and burnout 3) and ps1 (ape escape), but they dont work. only my originals.... i guess i did something wrong, but i have no idea what..
i burned the ps2 dvd discs with nero, but i dont think that that's the problem, because my backed up ps1 games used to work on my ps1...
any advice?

edit: o yeah, im using princo dvd-r (yeah i dont know either :P). anyone knows if those are fine?
another o yeah, i do get the infinity logo when i boot the ps2 originals

i see... so you dont think its a problem with my soldering? ill see if i can find one of my ps1 backups with a different cd type...

most of my ps1 cds are bestmedia, they dont work.
i got a verbatim, and it sees it as an audio cd. it IS playing music when i click one, so i gues its playing the game tracks.
i got a arita, its not working either
i got a fujitsu, which isnt working.

so, i dont think its a cd type problem :/
i also tried burning a dvd with alcohol 120%, but that's not working either....

o yeah, i was wondering, how do you test connections with a multimeter? cuz i have a multimeter, and it beeps if theres a connection, but i guess i should just put 1 point at every end of the wire (cuz there's nothing wrong with the wire....)

another thing, i soldered the scex cable to the yellow thing next to the thing which i should solder it to, because there was a link on the chip between them, and soldering to the yellow thing was much easier (of course i took the porper side of it, the side that's directly connected to the place where the guide thing indicated). That shouldn't matter, should it? because it is directly linked with one of those lines (whaddaya call em) on the board.

Recheck all your wires and see if there are any bridges or dry joints. If there are, redo them. As long as you tried different media other than Princo DVD-R and it still isn't working, then I suspect you may have some wiring problems.

EDIT: In response to your edit, you should ALWAYS solder where the diagrams tell you - they say to do it there for a reason. As for multimeters, always check there is continuity between the solder point, and the pad, and then from pad to Power and Pad to GND. It's pretty fool proof this way

Another tip is to keep GND as short as possible. Have you got a picture of the install?

yea, i do
the m is fastened in place, and the solder next to the scex is cleaned up, so thats not the problem.

ill check the wires. do you know any points that i should double-check, ie, which might cause my problem?

btw, did you read the last part of my previous post? i think you might not have seen it, because i edited it a few mins ago...

whats the pad?
the power is the 3.3 volt?
and the multimeter should beep on every of that tests?

ill try to solder the scex to where the diagram says, but its alot harder i think... also, it seems pretty weird to me.. it IS connected on the board afterall..

The pads are the solder points on the actual chip itself. You multimeter may not necessarily beep, just al long as it gives a reading - as long as it doesn't stay on infinate you should be OK...

the scex is now stuck in the right place, but the capacitor next to it looks pretty badly messed up now :/ i think it's broken, my dad is not sure. well, we put the ps2 back together anyway, and its still working, but still doesn't boot backups... (always red screen, insert ps or ps2 disc)
is this a problem with the scex, or can it be something else? if it's with the scex, i think i might have to go find a proffessional solderer... :/

edit: also, should i upgrade my matrix infinity for any reason? might that help?

edit: i also discovered a strange thing... if i put in a copied ps1 disc, and force ps1 boot mode, then it boots... if i dont force the boot mode, then it doesnt boot. but, it doesnt boot right... it boots like this
well, its not really clear, but the piece of text should be in the mioddle, not all over the screen.
im not sure if this is a good or a bad thing, or if this is supposed to happen or something... but if i can get the screen right, then i want a force ps2 boot mode too :P

editing sux... people have already read your reply, but dont see what you edited, because it doesnt show as an unread message :/

alright, what i was wondering, is there anything that i should check specifically in my case (ie, backups not working, originals do)? cuz i think i can get someone to replace the capacitor, but if that's not the problem, then why bother? so, i want to have one last check, but i gotta know what im looking for... any ideas?
o yeah, do read the edit of my last post if you haven't already

Smae problem here

I'm about to post this in a new thread.... but I have a very similar problem.

I installed a Matrix Infinity today. I get the Infinity 1.2 logo right by the playsation 2 one when I boot an original game.

-Direct boot (hold down select) works
-Original game works

-Configuration menu (hold down triangle and circle) does NOT work. If I select this, then the PS2 goes to a black screen and just sits there.

-Backup seems to NOT work. It spins the disc up and then gives me the pink/red 'please insert a ps2 disk' screen. I tried two backups (niether have been tested). A cd copy of Tekken Tag Tournment which I burned(4x) using alchohol... and an HD loader cd i burned(48x) to cd from a downloaded image. I used Memorex 52X CD-R media

I also had a problem with the SCEX point. The first wire i soldered to that point fell off, and I had a hell of a time getting solder to flow onto it to attach a new wire.

I would appreciate any and all help. Thanks.
