Someone here knowing such tool/programm?

I was searching the whole day now, but can't find what i'm searching.
A friend was asking me for help.

The situation:
- 1 PC with Win98 & normal modem
- two childs
- to high telefon bill

I search for a tool to dial up to the internet only per passwort entry. Each child should get an own account, so he can see who was when and how long online.

Someone here knowing such a tool?

Your friend can probably set 3 different log-ins. One for him/herself, then one for each child. Then restrict access to specific folders like cookies and history.

Each cookie entry will have the username in the name, and give the time and site visited (adds included though). Restricting access would of course disable them from deleting files.

This doesn't help with time or the bill, but will keep track of where they are going and at what times. The service provider log-on app should keep a log on their PC, although that is not user specific. I guess comparing the log and cookie files?

Anyways, i have winXP so am unsure on what securities there are. But, if there are going to be seperate user logins for the same internet account, it would have to be something that their service provider allows, which most won't.

*Just a Note* I use a program called keykey to monitor my kids activities on mine and it does quite nicely for seeing what is accessed. There is a 30 day trial period but all of the features are not available unless it is purchased. I think it still runs about $30... Well worth it for security purposes.

As for the phone bill part, is he having to dial up long distance or something?

My Pc had a 56k modem before I went to cable and it was always a local call. I used Netzero back in the day. There is a way to edit securities through the Control panel. Go to internet options and content. Enable content advisor and if I remember correctly, he can apply a password there which gives limited controll. When he uses it himself, he can just go back in and disable it again.

Hope this helps somewhat!

Many years ago I had a program that suited just your needs. Each user had a username/pass into the program which would popup just when you dialled up.
You had to logon to the program to then access the internet, and it kept a log of time and costs etc.

Problem is I can't remember it's name at all, too long ago.

Check if your ISP offers an 'Anytime' deal - so for a set price per month you can dial up for free.

[Edit]
I think www.internet-timer.co.uk was the program I am thinking about.
