Yeah you can. There is no way for Sega to know if the game being used is an original or a backup. New dreamcasts will not play backups & there is no chip available @ present which will allow you to do so.

Bollocks ! all dreamcasts will play backups, there was talk of a new version that wouldn't but since the DC was canned that was scrapped.

Rumor mill is annoying

SE*A was not "canned" They simply decided to pull out of the hardware platform for home entertainment systems. With Xbox, PS2 and Cube coming out, they knew they were in for it. They are still the largest coin-op arcade manufacturer and hold the largest library of software titles. They still intend on writing new software for the dreamcast and have offered other companies (including sony) to participate in software cross-licenseing. Therefore, it would be prudent to say "SE*A no longer is making the DC. That system is now retired." Who knows what they have in store for the future??

As for the "bew units don't play CD-Rs"
Complete and utter B.S. I went out tonight and bought a brand new unit just to see and it works fine! I obviously returned it for a refund, but now you know.
