can i play backed up games without a chip?

is there any way to play backed up games without a modchip?
if so please tell me how

ps without breakinig the front of the ps2 that is!!!

The knife trick will work, but like said it will ruin your PS2. It ruined mine. And the front is held on by a clip, so its not impossible to do with out breaking the front off, but it is extremely difficult. The knife trick doesn't work for all versions either.
