Although, I do not have this game and cannot really tell you about its protection mechanism, I can give you a very brief advice on how to recognize whether a crack for an older executable works with a patched version or not.
Take a look at the size of the cracked executable. If it's something smaller than 100kb, then it's very likely that it might work with newer versions, because such a small file size indicates that the original exe-file does not contain any useful information for the ingame-functions. In contrast, it only points to some other file, that hosts all the important ingame-information. One example: Far Cry (the first one), where the cracked exe-file has a file size of roughly 40kb but can be used almost universally with all versions of the game.
