Spiderman - Web of Shadows (workaround!!!!)

Ok all I am not sure how much this helps but it does work I can verify I am playing v1.1 with the old no cd crack.

1) Before you install 1.1patch copy your Spider-Man Launcher.exe & cracked Spider-Man Web of Shadows.exe to a backup folder
2) Install patch and use the new Launcher to set your settings.
3) Copy the old Spider-Man Launcher.exe back and r Spider-Man Web of Shadows.exe 1.0 cracked back into the game\images\PC\ folder and wala

I hope this helps people to play. I will try to upload the old Launcher for people to download soon.

I do notice after playing for awhile it lags up (memory leak maybe) but for the most part I played a few hours before it got lagg happy again.

Res: 1280/1024
vsync: no
Shodows: yes
other thing: no
last thing: yes
*sorry I forgot the other settings lol its kinda lame really only thing I wanted was to control the buildings and npcs fade point yet they just give us lame options.

Well, I think there's no need to update the game if you're using the old crack.

I take it you have not played this game yet? (edit I guess you have since you posted about it)

It runs like crap all the time without the patch on my system. Not saying all the updates are taking place or not but its def better than v1.0 even with the old crack.

You right, I don't own the game but my workmate has it and we're playing it last weekend.
We installed the game in both : XP & Vista.
In XP doesn't run (don't know why). Tried with the patch, then with the crack but was worthless.
In Vista, we run it after install without any problem so we didn't patch it. We apply the crack after a playing a couple of hours.

System: AMD X2 (don't know what speed) - 2GB RAM - GeForce 8600 GT.

System:
XP-essentials
amd 3.0x2
evga 8800gt
2gig ram
(realtek sound) I hear this is where a lot of my issue can be.

The problem is, you have basically removed any fixes to the executables by using the old cracked version. So all thats really patched is some data files.

Uninstall & re-install the game.
Check if you have .NET Framework updated to 3.5 (included in DVD) as well as DirectX and other similar stuff.

Yes I realize this. I tired to edit my post above, When you replace the 1.1launcher with the old one it wont let you play till you run the 1.0 launcher which overrides your graphical changes.........

Well it was worth a try. The game does play a bit better after the patch though.

Well man...there has to be some way to work around Safedisc 4.9. The exe was cracked the same day as the release. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to manage any combination of Daemon Tools + YASU or Alcohol to work even when disabling all drives and setting up a vIDE.

The 1.1 patch doesn't really do much anyways. Disabling shadows doesn't seem to impact performance unlike other games and, when you disable the particles, you get funny glitches. Better to just run the cracked 1.0 version so you don't have to hunt everywhere for a DVD. CoH is one of my favorite games since my DVD is in the closet somewhere and Relic autologs me in so I don't need it. I wish more companies would go this route. I do get pissed when the internet goes down once in a blue moon though.

WickeD, thanks for the info...

I'm having trouble with this game for weeks now, with Vista x64 sp1. When I first install the game, the installation didn't finish and ended with no errors, nothing. Only thing I found is a folder "image" (7.53GB) in the destination folder. The installion did take a really long time, so I re-install it again which also took about an hour, nuts!! I'm using raid0 with all SATAII hdds.

The 2nd install seems ok, but there are just 2 folders, "image" & "Docs", that's it. I found no exe, so I don't even know where to place the no-cd patch!!

Is there a way to do a full install?

DABhand 11-11-2008 02:25

You cant install from your original?

I'm not so sure what's the problem, I mean an hour to install 7.xxGB is BS... may be sth is wrong with the drive!?

Just an idea: maybe your S-ATA controller is set in the BIOS setup to native IDE mode and your DVD driver fell back from UDMA mode to PIO mode? Google "udma fallback pio" for possible solutions. (Mostly recommended: remove the IDE channel in the Device Manager and reboot.)

Or the media is not 100%, you can always return in it within 14 days depending on the country you live in of course.
