I really like Rise of Legends, but not enough to switch to XP. So I've been using the Win2k loader available at GCW. It worked fine until the latest patch, and now I get the dialogue:
"The procedure entry point AttachConsole could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll." AttachConsole is XP-specific, so I assume this patch was an attempt to foil anybody using Win2k. I tried replacing the .exe with an earlier version, but that didn't do anything. I re-installed the game, and it worked, but I can't play online without updating it. It's a old game. But maybe somebody knows something that could help. |

i don't think anyone will update the fix. The can be when the game is released bu after patches they usually don't get updated anymore (I don't mean no cd cracks). If you still wanna palying on Win 2k I guess you will have to downgrade

I just bought the game and since i could not imagine there are games out there that only support XP, I'm kinda pissed off (about microsoft, my own stupidity, and so on).
Now i found this thread and know that there is a win2K loader, so everything could be fine again. The only thing i would still like to know is how to get this game installed in the first place? Setup keeps telling me i need XP and the loader will only work after installation, i guess. So can someone share his knowledge with me. Thanks in advance.

If I were in your situation, I would install the game on a PC with Windows XP (source PC) installed and find the registry entries it creates. (There are softwares around that show registry changes, either real-time or as differences between two snapshots.) Then copy the files it installed from that PC to yours (target PC) and copy the registry entries, too. If the game is copied to another drive and/or directory on the target PC than it was on the source PC then change the registry entries accordingly. (The registry export is a plain file, shouldn't be hard to edit it.)
That's part of how I make rips of games that don't need to be installed anymore, just uncompressed for a large RAR archive, the registry file imported... and there I go playing!
