harddrive

i just got this harddrive as a gift and i dont want to put it in my computer. I want to make that an external drive so im looking for an case for that harddrive. Which do i look for to know the external will be compatible to my harddrive?

All cases will take any 3.5 inch drives, so saying it supports upto 400gb from the case information is wrong lol

Just get any case mate

Just a hint. If you don't need the hard disk to be used in other environments, as well, set it to master. Some IDE-to-USB transceiver chips (the soul of USB hard disk racks) don't support hard disks set to slave, ARGH!

what about the IDE and the EIDE?

See if the case supports UDMA (read the manual and/or open it and see if the ribbon cable has 80 wires). If it does, there should be no compatibility problems. (Don't know what exactly EIDE is; probably, it's the new IDE version/standard what we've still been calling IDE for about a decade!)

IDE was original terminology used for drives of less than 540mb, ExtendedIDE is the terminology attached to drives larger than 540mb.
Totally irrelevant these days as all drives are in reality EIDE but for sake of simplicity they are just referred to as IDE.
Just fit the damn drive, set as Master in the case and hey presto - an external USB drive.
