C&C First decade....Can it be played online without the DVD?

Hi there, I used to play me old cnc general\zero hour online no probs with a cracked 1.7 for generals and a 1.02 for zero hour...

I'm not quite sure how to go about this with the First Decade release though, I sold my old copies of those 2 so can't just use them unfortunately.

*this is not a cd-key issue* - I'm using genuine software incase anyone asks

I've tried the 1.7 crack for generals, but whenever I'm in the online lobby and try n enter a game, it says I'm using a different version to all the other people no matter which game I try n start.

I know the generals with first decade is version 1.8....not really sure what to try from here...

Would be interested to hear from anyone who has managed to play online with the first decade version of cnc generals (its version 1.8)...

Or anyone with cnc generals who's installed the 1.8 patch and can play online...

Thanks for any help,

Shouldn't you be using a mini/full image instead of a no-CD patch? The latter usually doesn't work online...

hey thanks for replying

Yep, your prolly right on that. To be perfectly honest with you, since most of my games now have cracks available, I've ditched daemon-tools a while ago, really couldn't be bothered with the extra hasstle since most games now need a loader to work as well that haven't been cracked.

I guess it would be an idea, but if anyone has managed it I'd be very interested to hear (without a mini-image)

It used to work for the cd version, just not now that first decade comes with 1.8 as standard, and there is no 1.8 crack. Using the 2 cracked files for 1.7 still shoes up as 1.8 in the game...

all very strange, direct ip games seem to work fine.

I know most games need clean uncracked exe's to run online, but since it was fine with 1.7, thats my reason for hasstling for some help.

Anywho....no worries if nobody knows anything...

cheers.

Ohhh, if you're saying that you just HATE to have copy protections lying (haha, lie-ing, get it?) around your hard disk and activating themselves while the game is running or being activated all the time, I'm with you! I also prefer clean cracks but, unlike you, I don't have time to play online (and not much for offline either)...
