Daemon Tools is driving me mad!

D-tools (latest version) installed an IVI Virtual CD SCSI CDrom driver on my system which shows up as a 3rd CD rom drive even when D-Tools is uninstalled. How do I get rid of this driver that is showing the extra drive as letter J which really isn't there anymore? I tried uninstalling it in the device manager in Win XP but after I reboot Windows plug& play finds it again and detects it as a cd rom drive.

I have 2 DVd\CD rom drives in this system (letters G&H) and for some reason when the drives are occupied with a cd or DVD they will not show up as being occupied in the my computer window. Both drives do the same thing if you put a disk in either of them. I recently reformatted and this happened after I changed the drive letters in Windows XP after installing Daemon tools. I've tried uninstalling D-tools and the drivers for the CD drives but it didn't help. I've also tried shutting down all the programs running in the background of Win XP but it didn't help either. I'm not sure if this part is related to the driver that D-tools installed or not. Any advise?

You should be asking this on the Daemon tools support forum, that is why they have one.

I'm not 100% sure Daemon tools is the cause of that driver. Its just my guess, the second part of the thread I beleive might be WinXP related, again I'm not sure so thats why I'm asking. It was hard to explain in the first place so I think its ok here but I might take your advice and post it somewhere else before I decide to take the ultimate step and reformat, becuase I'm stumped.

Perhaps he had an Image still mounted when he uninstalled Daemon?
I know this can be a problem with Alcohol so I presume it could be a problem with Daemon as well?
I am not really sure if it happens with Daemon as ive never unistalled it before with an Image still mounted?

Thats possible. I could have. I've tried reinstalling and uninstalling D-Tools without anything mounted but it didn't take the driver with it. TippeX, I'll try your idea when I get home, is there a way to uninstall that driver while in safe mode or what exactly are you suggesting?

Why don't you just format your windows?

I do if I have problems with XP.

well i meant uninstalling it in normal windows, uninstalling in safe mode might work (havent actually tried that).. my idea was more.. uninstall normal, reboot in safe mode (thus loading minimal driver set) and see if cdroms work then

The CDrom drives always have worked fine its just that I'm not getting a reading on what is in the drives when they are occupied in the MY COMPUTER window. Its somewhat inconvenient since I have to go to disc management just to find out the exact name of the disc that is in the drives, I also like being able to tell when the drive is loaded as the name of whatever CD is put in the drive\s is instantly displayed the second it loads if things were normal.

I did try uninstalling the driver for D-tools and then rebooted into safe mode. The J drive still showed up even in safe mode. Maybe the d-tools driver isn't what is cuasing that to appear. I just reformatted this system a week ago and now have it the way I like it except for these 2 problems.

Dr. Killer, I really don't care to spend another day or more installing windows, updating and then reistalling all the other software if there is a quick solution to this problem. Reformatting might be the only answer and I know its one solution that will fix my problem but I'm going to stick it out for awhile and hope someone shoots me some more suggestions to try first.

Well I will say it again.
If you have problems with Daemon Tools then ask, or at least read, in their support forum.
They are, afterall, in the best position to offer help with their own product.

What makes you think this is definitly a D-tools related issue? I was just starting to beleive that that program may have nothing to do with this as I explained above. I have posted on their site and will try uninstalling the driver as a thread on their forum describes how to do that.

@whoeverxxx
Ive just noticed your link for the pic in your first post!
Are you sure that drive does not belong to Alcohol 120?
My Daemon tools virtual drive does not have the 'DVD' logo on it!! But my alcohol drive does!

I've had a similar problem with Alcohol 120% that I uninstalled and reinstalled, for a test. The drive got removed but the "PNP extension" whatever device in the Device Manager didn't. I had to delete it manually from the registry, YUCK!

(By the way, wrong forum! This question belongs to the "CD/DVD Software & Utilities" forum...)
