Try it with the original DVD; does that crash, too? If it does, contact the publisher or see the official support forum as the problem is then not related to the circumvention of the copy protection.

Check on Civfanatics/Apolyton for some possible work-arounds as well, I've read a few threads about the game not running from DVD due to it 'thinking' that dtools or alcohol are being used, etc.

I havn't tried the no-cd method yet, but per the instructions, be sure to try using the sd4 hide in the order they describe. I'll fire it up later today -- no wait it's thanksgiving... i'll try tomorrow and post back if it gives me the same grief.

What emulator are you trying?

FYI, there's a new patch out, so they may have fixed some startup issues.

Patch v1.09 has just been released for Civilization IV, maybe this will solve the problem for froggymatey.

This patch still works with a self made image, DT4 and SD4Hide

Hi

I Had This Problem.

I Installed Daemon Tools 3.47 Not v4.00.
Mounted The Fix Image From Gamecopyworld. To Daemon Tools
Executed Safedisc Hider 1.0. Clicked Hide
Loaded The Game, Clicked UPDATE Game, Installed The Patch.
After Installation.
Loaded The Game, So Far So Good.! :-)
