Yes modifying the laser does nearly half the life of your DC, because the laser now has to work 2X as hard on CD-RWs, CD-Rs, and even original game discs. It is a stupid mod and should not be attempted by anyone The laser need not be modified unless your a cheap asshole who wants to use CD-RWs instead of CD-Rs. Another thing about CD-RWs, you only get two full good burns to them, and usually they are worthless afterwards. So break down and buy CD-Rs instead. ~The Masked M0M0~
