Hi guys,

Actually, I have the feeling that Windows XP is better suited for gaming, and Windows 2000 is rather for more serious (server) purposes. Windows XP is not only a successor of Windows 2000 but a lot of functionality of the Windows 95/98/ME series has also been added. Not to mention that, because more people use Windows XP than Windows 2000, most game manufacturer companies test their games on Windows XP, not Windows 2000. I'm not trying to defend either OS, though...

Joe

in my experience 2k is more stable and less buggy than xp. the functionality is basicaly the same. xp has some better desktop-gfx and a more colorful design...not to forget media player 9 and 10 (but who really wants them?).

its a fact, that more users use xp than 2k. but thats because every pc is shipped with xp. i've never seen a dell-pc for example with 2k.

why is it, that you think that xp is better suited fo gaming than 2k? imo the basic functions are the same. look at the graphics-drivers from ati for example. they are the same for 2k and xp....

..but were getting wwaaaay off topic, aren't we?

p.s.: if youre happy with xp...no prob for me. but i had only bad experiences with that os.

I was having the same problem and came across the solution at lucasarts' forums. Your problem is not the cracks, it is the game. For some reason the logo movies that play at the beginning are not playing correctly. Here is the fix:

(copied and pasted from a german site)

After Double-Clicking on the Star Wars Republic Commando-Icon and clicking on "Start Game" the game crashes and the desktop comes up.

It seems the videos from nvidia and lucasarts were the problems. So you should do following things:

1. Go to Directory "installDir/GameData/movies/"
2. Copy the files "LECIntro.avi" and "NVIDIAIntro.avi" to another Backup-Directory
3. Delete the both files from the directory "installDir/GameData/movies/"
4. Try to start the game
5. Perhaps this will be fix the problems at startup

I'm using the Vengence rip of the game and I'm having the same problem as the other person(The Beginning starts to load then the game crashes half way through.) I've used the Vengence crack and the PCGAME crack and both do not seem to work. Could the VNG rip be the problem?

So just so I understand your problem correctly, are you using the Vengeance version of the game? His actual copied version of the game? The pirated version? As well as using the Vengeance NoCD and the PCgame fix?
