cause of RSOD

Hi,

Usually, what is the cause of RSOD?
And, how do you prevent it from happenning?

Thanks

What I meant was when you already have a mod chip. I have a v7 with MI, and about 50% of time, this happens.
It looked like some other people had similar issue. I don't think it's a bad burn as I had the same thing happenning with import originals.
So, if you already have a mod chip and this still happens, what could be the cause and how do I fix it?

Thanks

I've been using G04 and G05, and as I mentioned original imports are no better.

Thanks

It could be a laser issue. Does it go to the browser screen for a couple of seconds before it boots original games?

I agree with Warlock, I had a similar issue burn me the first time I did my install. If it is a Duo2SE try one of your original PS2 games and see if it goes to RSOD. Also try to disable the chip and see if you get your browser screen before you see you PS2 game boot up, this would be a good indication that you have a bad or dirty laser. On mine, I took the top off of the laser drive compartment and swabbed it down with a que tip with alcohle. May not be the best way to clean a laser but it worked with mine. Hope this helps

No, in my case, it's either ROSD after the blue screen or the Platstation2 logo.
It doesn't go to the browser screen at all.
One thing I 've noticed, though, is that when it loads OK, the initial blue screen disapprears quicker.
For ROSD, the blue screen lingers longer, and it zooms in much slower before getting to the next screen, which is RSOD.
Also, I had my laser cleaned right after getting the MI installed.

Thanks

There are different causes for the RSOD.

1. Wrong format of disc. (not a ps1/2 game)

2. Backup without modchip or device to boot it. (will give you same as above)

3. Dirty media

4. Scratched/unreadable media

There are probably more but thats what I can think of off the top of my head.

Tyler!

I guess it's also possible that your modchip is playing up or one or more of the wires aren't making a good connection. MI are very good modchips though so I doubt the actual chip is fuber, but I would check the connections.

Also, like Cobra alrady mentioned, do you ever get the RSOD when using originals from your region? If you do, then it could be a laser issue. If you never get it, then I bet it's got something to do with the chip.

Just for the record, I have a MI and I've never gotten a RSOD with any of my discs, imports, originals or backups. I use Ritek G04's too.
