Yes vertical is better. This goes all the way back to the ps1 days when their lasers started acting up. People noticed that if they put their games in and stood their ps1 up sideways it worked better.


Horizontal on a ps2 lets gravity hold the laser down without the extra little bit of adjustment that it may need.


One bad thing about vertical though is that with some ps2's you might get scratches on the disc where the laser mechanism hits the disc. So using backups would be a good idea. Also the scratches are never too deep and a little polish should fix them up nicely.
