Ps2 , vertical or horizontal ?

hi,

which is the best position? i`ve heard vertical is better for keeping dust from settling but it seems to me that disc drive might have to work harder.

any opinions ??

thanks.

I run my PS2's vertical just by choice. People say its less stress on the laser this way because it lets the lense float. I dont know if it really helps or not.

Yes vertical is better. This goes all the way back to the ps1 days when their lasers started acting up. People noticed that if they put their games in and stood their ps1 up sideways it worked better.

Horizontal on a ps2 lets gravity hold the laser down without the extra little bit of adjustment that it may need.

One bad thing about vertical though is that with some ps2's you might get scratches on the disc where the laser mechanism hits the disc. So using backups would be a good idea. Also the scratches are never too deep and a little polish should fix them up nicely.

Tyler!

Indeed, I've heard vertical is better. Shame though, I'm stuck with my sideways thanks to my HDD.... :( Still, no problems running games though! :)

Why are you stuck Horizontal? I used to have my PS2 vertically with the HDD installed - it never gave me any problems :)

Hehe, this is why:

My HDD is in the Vantec Rack :D

lufcfan 29-11-2004 13:36

WTF is that thing, lol?

gtapex_trueno 29-11-2004 13:47

lol Instead of sticking the HDD into the PS2, It's in the thing under the PS2. And the Vantec part can be taken out. It's a HDD rack, that way I can swap it into my computer quickly, w/out having to take off the Network Adapter. Plus it keeps the HDD cooler than leaving it in the PS2. :D

lufcfan 29-11-2004 14:09

Sounds cool! ;)

eakinsme 29-11-2004 14:22

whats that cost and where can it be purchased?

gtapex_trueno 29-11-2004 14:28

It's a custom made one of a kind

A guy that lives near my university made it and I got it from him. Swapped the HDD rack though, the Vantec one w/the LCD looks a lot better than the other one :D

will this work?

very cool GTA :)

gtapex_trueno 29-11-2004 15:05

That'd work, but you need to make a Female to Male IDE cable that is 6" or less. Any longer and it'd be non-workable. You also need a Molex cable to attach from the NA to HDD Rack. The IDE cable will be attached the same way.
