well it comes in a BIN image or you can compile it yourself. and then you burn it to a cd, and along with a modchip that has a dev mode like the Infinity or DMS. you can load it from the cd or memory card. you can do it without a mod but it requires silly swap discs and that method i have no idea how to do.
after its installed, you can convert your avi file to a BIn image and burn it to cd then play that avi in your ps2. ofcourse you can set the rastio and stuff on editing programs such as virtualdub and all those things too.
