Smile Doom from CD's to DVD-R

I made my backup copy of Doom3 from my 3xCD's to one DVD-R and it worked. Everything installed and run correctly.
First copy all files from CD-1 to a Hard drive folder, then copy all the .pak files from the folders in CD-2,CD-3 and save them to their correct folders on HardDrive folder. Don't copy anything else from CD-2 or CD-3.

Now, replace the Doom3.exe with a 'No CD' version'.

Then in a Hex Editor open the Doom3.msi and search for text.... DOOM3_1
This is relevent to your problem because there is only one reference to each CD in this. I found the three CD's named as DOOM3_1, DOOM3_2, DOOM3_3
so I renamed them all the same as DOOM3_X and saved the Doom3.msi file.
( I did do searches for other CD name reference but only found the above)
This should work for other games that use xxx.msi and load several CD's.
Don't change the length of the edited names or you will get an error when run, and just make the edited names the same one as the Volume label of the DVD you are going to make.

Now load up Nero and make the DVD ISO, (I first used a DVD-RW) label it as DOOM3_X
Then copy all the files to the compilation and Burn the DVD.

i did this with manhunt and it worked fine. didnt ask for the disks, it was a smooth install.

if the game has an .msi file you can edit it yourself. use orca as has been suggested, or masai editor

its pretty easy to use, but doesnt work for every game. should help you do most of them though

Any ideas to combine the 4 Emperor: Battle for Dune CDs in one DVD?

I could not manage it, cause (1) there are 2 files (i think the movies-ones) in the #2, #3 and #4 volume with the same names and different sizes, and (2) different volume names (EMPEROR1, EMPEROR2, and so on...)

Help!

Hmmm...... this is your 3rd post in 1 1/2 hours asking the same question! You need to have some patience! If someone knows an answer to your question they will answer it! You really cant expect it to always be answered right away. Be patient your answer will come.

yes it is my 3rd post. so what? i'm trying to solve my problem, nothing more. I think i have better chances to get an answer if i post my question in similar threads. It is not a question of patience. i have a lot of it. But i think you have not.

Thats OK, no offence taken (as you did appolagize rather quickly) what made you have the change of heart? I know, from other people doing the same thing (posting multiple threads about the same thing) that it is frowned upon here. Thats all. Good luck

P.S. And I see you did get your answer (thanx to reddragon105) only 5 hours after your first post! Thats not bad a lot of people sometimes wait a lot longer! Unfortuneatly for you, you appear to be out of luck with your problem! But at least it was answered and you now know why it cant be done. All the best.
