xbox kernel is >5530 = No Modchip to play backups????
I read this here this is false right?

that is not what the post was about. It says that if your kernal > 5530, then you can do a softmad. Which is actually false and quite the opposite.
If the kernal < 5530 = You can do softmod. Newer kernals have been fixed so softmodding is not possible. A modchip will work fine as long as it supports your xbox version (along with the bios).
