Im sure you could derive the same amount of pride installing your chip in a newer ps2. But I guess since youll probably wind up with a v9 or v10 and wont be able to use your chip. I understand where your comming from.

Why is it exaclty that you cant get your wire to the other side of the board? You think longer wire would help?

LOL, no no no, that's not it. I can't get to the other side of the board. The motherboard is attached to another board but I'm not too sure how. There is a clip and some sort of power plug that are attached between the two and I can get the clip open but not the plug. You can see where the plugs are soldered onto the motherboard so I'm wondering if I have to desolder those to get it apart so I can get to the back of it.

I too, can understand your point of view about personal pride.
Do you have a digital camera? The v2 is pretty old.
Maybe with a pic, we could help a little better rather than give alternative solutions like selling.
Might cut down of some of the frustration if we knew exactly what you got going on there.

try taking a look at the diagrams on the following site.

www.duomodchip.com

might be of some use to you. ie since you can't get to the other side of the board.

Besides point "s" is only really necesary for psx games I think. So if you don't mind psx games, I don;t think it matters.

double check the solder points and see if you may have a bridge of solder causing it.

So far no luck. I'm not even getting sound now. I'll have to pull them all off and try again in the morning.

Ok, here is the latest. I was able to get the dang thing working again, minus the chip. I went to my local eb and bought a used ps2 (i took a look and it's a version 7). I came home packed up the old one and brought it back to get a refund. The dumb ass didn't even check the thing. So I now have a version 7 and I'm going to try modding it right now. any advice on v7 modding??

Well the v7 is a better system but not for the Magic 3.1. It won't be able to play all games such as Splinter Cell, Max Payne, Freedom Fighters, and True Crimes Streets of LA. I would recommend selling your Magic 3.1 and buying a Duo. It will play everything and has only 17 wires to be soldered. Only $19.99 + free shipping from www.modchips.cc

I concur with Bighap, The Duo chip is an excellent choice and you wont regret swapping that ole v2 for the v7.
Win, Win situation now.
