Version 2 problem installing Magic 3.1

Is there an alternate soldering point for point S? No matter what I do I can't seem to be able to get to the other side of the motherboard. Bah!

Thanks.

are you sure you want to use the magic 3.1 chip?
I have been reading alot about how they have a tendency to wear out the laser faster than normal. I would recommend a Duo chip instead. They are low in price and very reliable. Free shipping to boot. Also if you are interested in having one installed, pm Spedmetal. He can install one for $60.00 this includes chip, install service and return shipping. He is in the middle of a move right now so it may take him a couple days to reply. There are a number of other mod installers here that may even be able to help you. Plz read up on the magic 3.1 though cause I'm sure you will change your mind once you read previous posts on this chip.

Huh? Where did you hear that? Mod chips don't wear out your laser(except Neos), backups do.

crazygamelover 10-12-2003 12:43

I stand corrected, Thanks for the correction Biggie.
Thats what I meant, (backups with Magic 3.1). I was reading in a previous post about SplinterCell not going to the secont level if its a v7 or higher. I was under the perception that the Magic 3.1 was not a very reliable chip. Thats why Duo was recommended to me and have really good reviews as well. So I wanted to recommend it too.

S point... as in the SCEX point as labeled on other chips...?

What version PS2 do you have?

this may help - just change the number where it says V7 if you have a different station...

Not sure what you mean by getting to the other side of the MB... as far as I was aware these were the only connection points available for this wire.

You can solder to either the resistor or the cap - or bridge between them with solder and solder to both - makes the connection stronger. the points are connected with a track anyway.

see attached - all the points circled are ok as alternatives.

budica 10-12-2003 23:32

I'm useing the version 2 and on the diagram it has a second picture that says bottom side and that's where the connection has to go for the S connect.

ShadowKnyght 11-12-2003 02:12

oh... ok - sorry then - we never got the V2's in Oz - started at the V3's.

The V1-V2 I think need to be de-soldered to access all points.

crazygamelover 11-12-2003 03:36

Just a suggestion , Could sell that one to someone and put the money towards a newer version. In the long run, you would be better off.

budica 11-12-2003 10:13

No I'm not going to sell it.

Ok now when you say desolder I wonder if that's for the 4 points on the bottom that look like they connect to a plug (sort of like the plug that connects from the power suply to the MB.). Has anyone here installed a Magic 3.1 in a version 2???

Well unfortunately your not gonna find many people that can help you with that particular version ps2.

Could you possibly let us know why you wouldnt want to sell it? Because selling it seems the more logical idea.

Magic Chip rating

Didn't the magic chip get a good rating in the newbie guide? 8/10 I believe, beaten only by the Messiah 2.

I've got a Magic 3, and have been happy with it, although I'm not sure what the exact model is e.g. 3.?

But it works.

budica 11-12-2003 16:07

I'm not going to sell it because it works just fine and I don't have enough money to buy a new one. No more talk of selling!

TylerDurden 11-12-2003 17:10

Hey bud, you know if you sold it on ebay you could get almost the same price as a new one.

Ease up on the attitude, we are trying to help you here. If you cant adjust yourself Ill do it for you.

I'm sorry. I'm not trying to give attitude. I'm just getting frustrated because I'm not getting the help I'm looking for. I'm happy to have the input, really. I just wish there was one person out there that has done the magic 3 install on a version 2 just to give me the last little bit of help I need. To tell you the truth it's a bit of a pride thing as well. I've never done any soldering before and for me to get this far is quite good. Now I just want to finish it.
