NOW...
The original discs are, in fact, neither -R nor +R. They are pressed. They were never "burned" at all, but rather stamped out of a piece of plastic based on a glass master.
So it doesn't matter which you backup to. Older PS2's won't read +R reliably. PS2's with worn lasers won't read EITHER reliably.
