Question about CDR Media and DVD Media along with the newest PS2
 

I'm not sure if the PS2's laser is going to be picky, but does it matter what kind of cdr media that I use to backup PSX games? The original PSX's cd-rom speed is like 2x right? What if I burn a game on a 48x media at 48x speed? Will it still run though? I heard the newest PS2 have native progressive scan and complete DVD+r/rw support. I heard that the DVD+r/rw format is better than the dvd-r/rw format which is supported by the dvd forum. Anyway if I backup the PS2 games and burn them all to a DVD+r/rw and run it on the newest PS2, would everything be ok? Even if the original disk was a DVD-R media? Would it matter by going from DVD-R to DVD+r? Thx

Why convert your -r backups to +r? It is pointless. Since the v5, it doesn't matter if you use -r or +r. They should both work fine. For cd games, yes you can burn at 48x no problem, some people have better luck at slower speeds though.

fyi, the original is pressed, not dvd-r, unless u mean your backup.

I don't think I was being specific enough. The original copies/retail copy of the PS2 game comes in the form of a DVD-R media right? When choosing the disc to use to burn, does it matter whether I use DVD-R or DVD+r? I rather use DVD+R because the newest PS2 does read it and articles from the net claim that its the better format.

Ok, you'll get a LOT of flak from people about the +R vs. -R issue. They are... roughly equivalent. While I prefer +R, many people prefer -R - and the only CLEAR area in which +R excels is set-top-box compatibility as regards EDITS made after the fact to your DVD. In that area, +R clearly wins hands-down, but in all other areas they're about equal.

NOW...

The original discs are, in fact, neither -R nor +R. They are pressed. They were never "burned" at all, but rather stamped out of a piece of plastic based on a glass master.

So it doesn't matter which you backup to. Older PS2's won't read +R reliably. PS2's with worn lasers won't read EITHER reliably.

the +r format is **** most older players wont play it,but will play dvd-r

the reason dvd-r are made on the same principle as a pressed disc,dvd+r is totally different

i just spent £100 to buy a05 for 4x burning,i already got the a04
for £160 i could bought the a06 and had +r as well but i not wste £60 on +r when its more expensive to buy media,and has very little compatibility compared to the - r

You must be getting your information from the exact opposite people as me.

From what I know, +R is in fact more like a 'real' DVD than -R is, being that it was developed by Philips (who invented both CD's and DVD's and own the standard).

HOWEVER, the truth is that at the CURRENT TIME, with lots of old units still on the market, -R is probably more compatible.

Certainly in the PS2 arena.
