i also had this problem at the beginning.
you need to import the registry settings you´ve edited.
so the game knows where it´s installed and it can be configured.

i have import this sesttings:

but i cant change my settings and when i press play it dosent start!
the game starts only when i start mgs2.exe or mgs2_sse.exe.

i dount know what i have do wrong .

but there is still another registry entry needed:

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> KONAMI -> MetalGearSolid2 Substance -> 1.00.00
* you see this entry is empty
* we must fill this place
* right click on 1.00.00 -> new -> DWORD
* a new DWORD will be created and you have to give him a name
* double click on it -> enter "1"
* right click on the DWORD -> rename -> "Full Install"

Hello ^^
I was messing around with the reg to try and make it so when I do make the DVD to CD backup, I could install to any dir and not have to change the reg all the time, this seemed to work for me ^^

Installed the game (Full of course)
used gimp dvd crack

used this as my reg import

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KONAMI]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KONAMI\MetalGearSolid2 Substance]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KONAMI\MetalGearSolid2 Substance\1.00.000]
"Full Install"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\KONAMI\MGS2S]
"InstallDir"=".."
"SrcDrive"=".."

played the game and everything, let me know if it works for others!

you need this reg-entry so the setup.exe "knows" that MGS2 is installed and can be configured.

try this:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\KONAMI\MGS2S]
"InstallDir"=".\\"
"SrcDrive"=".\\"

of it don´t work fill in you complete install dir like
"InstallDir"="E:\Games\MGS2\"

i made it a stiky, cuz there will be more dvd only games
available soon... (like TRON 2.0).

all you need is in the first post (don´t fotget the registry stuff...)
