Heh.

So yeah, CloneCD has been recommended by many people. I actually went and downloaded it. Latest version.

Of course no download would be complete without a proper crack to gain full software functionality. So I went and got such a crack. CloneCD detected both my reader and my writer perfectly, things worked like a charm.

Then of course I wanted to try it out, so I decided to copy a CD. I just loaded up a russian version of UT, and it was actually read pretty fast.

Then the part of the actual burning arrived. And how surprising it was - it failed on the very first attempts, in a matter of 10 seconds.

Lucky me it failed so fast, before it even started to write, so I didn't get a coaster.

But I had to copy the CD, so I went to good old Nero, and my surprise was even greater when it produced a perfect copy.

This story taught me the same lesson again: not to believe anyone. Nero all the way! CloneCD, Easy CD Creator, CDRWin, they are all told to have their advantages, people recommend them, and maybe in some small insignificant aspects they are better than Nero, but overall, Nero isn't only the best, it's the best by far. Really really far. With all the functionality, simplicity, compatibility and ability.

I probably sound like I've been paid by Ahead to advertise and promote Nero.
Have you tried to BUY Clone CD instead of getting a crack??? I can assure you that a regular licenced CloneCD version works perfect...never had a problem with it as long I used the correct settings and hardware compatibility.

Yeah, I heard thoughts about how the crack messes CloneCD up before, but:

A) Software has to be either extremely smart (and evil) or extremely stupid for cracks to mess it up, and if WinXP with all its complex defenses can be cracked, I think it's safe to assume that a small prog, like CloneCD should too. A crack is nothing but someone else's serial number, which the program either accepts or doesn't. It did, then it should work.

B) Even if considering the very unlikely possibility that it's the crack's fault, all versions of Nero work perfectly with cracks and without them, for me and for anyone else. If CloneCD doesn't, #### it.

C) The last thing I'm gonna do is buy CloneCD now, having witnessed it failing on my comp. It's damn stupid to buy something that didn't work and hope that it will if you just pay for it.

D) I'm actually willing to try reinstalling the demo and see if it works, then cracking it again and see if the crack has any effect.

E) Yeah, you're right. I didn't pay for the software, so of course I don't deserve anything from it, but, as it is with any kind of software, it's naive to think that if I buy it, I will surely get what I deserve for my money, so the simpler thing is just not to spend money on software.

F) It's possible that I didn't set some option right, although I did check them all, and set all the usual things, and it did detect my CD-Recorder just fine. I just don't care enough to try again. I guess the only point here is that the best is what works best for you.
