conclusion
charlie, you advised me more than i could have hoped. This mod-chip game that we play doesn't have very well defined rules, the other team gets to cheat alot. But I believe that I've found a logical solution to my fix.
Here it goes. The U5 PT15 w/ datecode 1c does have the 040 bios, therefore needing the extra bios patch found in the magicII R chip. Initially, I was thinking I needed the magic2v7, because magic had, at one point, integrated v5/6(R) and v7 into one chip. But as of magic's september 4th news post, magic decided to separate the two lines into two chips, the v5/6 and v7. So now, I simply need to install the v5/6 chip, cross my fingers, and pray to the gods of hacking. Thanks for the help, charlie. I'm ordering the chip on payday, and will post a message of the verdict.
