Is it a realtek soundcard? If so. Yes get a seperate hardware card. Software soundcards (onboard) arent that great to be honest, they use up valuable system RAM to work. By getting a hardware based sound card it will free up that RAM and work alot nicer. (be sure if you do buy one to disable the onboard soundcard in the BIOS)
