1. He was giving you a suggestion to help you out in the long run, a DVD-rom would be a better option for you.

2. He is a Moderator, he can answer you in any way or form.

Your post has been moved to the correct section of the forum, people can still read it.

F.E.A.R needs a really meaty graphic card and a decent processor and 512mb RAM (1gig recommended).

Quake 4 - Sounds like your disc/s might either be

1. Dirty and need a quick clean

2. Perhaps not working.

3. Your CD-Rom/RW cant handle the disc correctly.

@Beejay: Without wanting to annoy you, not buying a drive capable of, at least, reading DVD's is quite nonsense today. CD/DVD reader-writer-rewriter combo drives are very cheap today, even brand ones. And, for that money, you get support for DVD's, a media that is more than six times larger and about ten times faster than a CD and that is extremely useful for general backup purposes, as well. (F*ck, I don't want to imagine what we would be doing with our multi-Gigabyte DB2 databases if we had to archive them onto CD's! ) [Edit] Also, when you bought the game, you read the minimum system requirements, which included a DVD drive, so there's not really a point in complaining...

re F.E.A.R that is usually what happens when your computer is not good enought isn't it?
re Quake - should I try to get some else to copy it for me. I have copied all my games but this is the first time this sort of thing has happened. Did you mean that it may not have been copied properly or that the cd rom doesn't like the copied cd?
thanks

It is this sentence which is causing everyone to tell you to buy a DVD player/recorder! You were the one who asked.
As far as your CD games problem goes, try and install from the original discs first, that way we know if it is an issue with your system?
If it works from your originals then you know your copy is the problem and means it has not been burnt correctly.
If it still asks for CD1, when installing from the original discs, then it is a problem with the original CD's then you will need to contact the games support! This is not a support forum.
And yes your F.E.A.R. problem sounds like it is a graphics card or driver problem!

As far as your CD games problem goes, if it has nothing to with a NoCD crack, and it is a problem with the original CD's then you need to contact the games support! This is not a support forum.
I am not using the original copies. As I said I burn the orignals and this is where the problem lies. I am going to reinstall the game again and when it asks to put in disk 1 I will put in the orignal cd and see what happens. But if it works what does that mean?? and if it doesn't work - then I really don't know what that will mean

Using the CDs the one time is not going to destroy them, and requesting you to at least make the attempt is sound advice. Besides, if you copied them then they've already been 'used'.

If it turns out that only the disk copies are preventing you from installation, you might try a different software package for duplicating them. You also could try using something like WinISO to extract the contents of the disks to your harddrive, then manually burn them to disk being sure to label the CD appropriately. CD protections prevent execution of the data without the disk, but I have never known an installation to check for protection.

try making .iso files (image files) of the original cds with win iso or ultra iso, and then extract all files from all the cds into 1 folder. then run the set up and that should work without it having to ask you for cd1. if you are having trouble figuring that out e-mail me and i will help you. (stunbeam**********com)
hope it works for you.
