Quake 4 and F.E.A.R.

I am new to forums and I have looked everywhere how to post a message - yes read all the FAQ and rules etc so hope what I am doing is okay
I HAVE bought these two games last weekend but I don't play games without copying them first because I like to be able to sell the games when finished with them.
I installed Quake 4 (PC roms)but at the end of installation it asks for Disk 1 again but nothing happend when I put in Disk 1. I have to abort the installation. Yes I know I could put in the original disk but I haven't come across this problem before when I make my backup copies.
F.E.A.R (again PC roms) installs without any problems and I apply the patch but then the screen goes black and hangs up. I guess this would be a video problem would it?
As a lot more games are coming out on DVD and I don't have one yet is it possible for me to say buy a game - get someone who has a DVD drive to copy it to their hard drive and then make CD roms for me to play the game. Hope that is not an illegal question - I would be buying the game in the first place.
Appreciate any help you can give me especially with Quake 4

(Thread moved to "PC Games Backup"-Forum.)

Why you don't buy a DVD-Rom-Drive?
It's cheaper than a new Game.

it is not up to you to question what I do with my money. If you can't reply to my question then please don't reply at all. I have read this forum and others for a long time and it seems that people who answer just want to rubbish the people who genuinely want help.
Remember the saying "if you can't say something nice?"
In this case if you don't answer the question...........

Beejay 11-11-2005 01:08

and what does "moved to pc back up forum mean? I said I was new. How do I get replies if this has happened????

DABhand 11-11-2005 01:49

1. He was giving you a suggestion to help you out in the long run, a DVD-rom would be a better option for you.

2. He is a Moderator, he can answer you in any way or form.

Your post has been moved to the correct section of the forum, people can still read it.

F.E.A.R needs a really meaty graphic card and a decent processor and 512mb RAM (1gig recommended).

Quake 4 - Sounds like your disc/s might either be

1. Dirty and need a quick clean

2. Perhaps not working.

3. Your CD-Rom/RW cant handle the disc correctly.

@Beejay: You should read the BOARD RULES again. Especially rule #11 !!!

@Beejay: Without wanting to annoy you, not buying a drive capable of, at least, reading DVD's is quite nonsense today. CD/DVD reader-writer-rewriter combo drives are very cheap today, even brand ones. And, for that money, you get support for DVD's, a media that is more than six times larger and about ten times faster than a CD and that is extremely useful for general backup purposes, as well. (F*ck, I don't want to imagine what we would be doing with our multi-Gigabyte DB2 databases if we had to archive them onto CD's! ;)) [Edit] Also, when you bought the game, you read the minimum system requirements, which included a DVD drive, so there's not really a point in complaining...

You say you are new here but you also say you have read this forum for a long time, and you mean to say that you never noticed GLH is a Moderator here!? :p :D

If we cant question you, can we tell you instead?

Buy a DVD Rom and join the 21st century!

There, is that better? (I mean, come on, you can get a DVD drive for $20 US).

Beejay 11-11-2005 16:58

and out of all that I got one reply to my actual questions.
for the person who said to check the requirements on the box - these are PC Rom games not DVD.
To the one person who tried to answer my question re Quake thank you but the CD I copied to was new and clean. I also got someone else to try the game and they came up with the same thing. It keeps asking for Disk one before installation is complete and even when I put in disk one it doesn't recognize it and then when you cancel it just deletes the whole installation. I am not talking about needing to install the patch - you don't even get that far. Any other suggestions (for help with my questions only please) would be appreciated

this is a CD rom we are talking about - not a DVD

re F.E.A.R that is usually what happens when your computer is not good enought isn't it?
re Quake - should I try to get some else to copy it for me. I have copied all my games but this is the first time this sort of thing has happened. Did you mean that it may not have been copied properly or that the cd rom doesn't like the copied cd?
thanks

It is this sentence which is causing everyone to tell you to buy a DVD player/recorder! You were the one who asked. ;)
As far as your CD games problem goes, try and install from the original discs first, that way we know if it is an issue with your system?
If it works from your originals then you know your copy is the problem and means it has not been burnt correctly.
If it still asks for CD1, when installing from the original discs, then it is a problem with the original CD's then you will need to contact the games support! This is not a support forum. ;)
And yes your F.E.A.R. problem sounds like it is a graphics card or driver problem!

As far as your CD games problem goes, if it has nothing to with a NoCD crack, and it is a problem with the original CD's then you need to contact the games support! This is not a support forum. ;)

I am not using the original copies. As I said I burn the orignals and this is where the problem lies. I am going to reinstall the game again and when it asks to put in disk 1 I will put in the orignal cd and see what happens. But if it works what does that mean?? and if it doesn't work - then I really don't know what that will mean
