Fastest DVD ROM drive?

Ive read that the closest to true 16x are the Toshiba's. I personally have a Toshiba SD-M1712 with hacked firmware to be able to read dvd movies as fast as possible.

About your question on why dvd movies rip slower, its because dvd drive manufacturers set a 2x or 4x speed limit. Its just the way it goes. So if you can find a firmware hack that disables that limit then your golden.
