It's a V9, with a troubled early history of burnt laser & LA chip which I had to replace.
I might try a different media type now that I know it should work theoretically.

Yeah, it's an original purchased from an official reseller.
It doesn't have an F wire on the pcb and DVD-+RW don't seem to work.
I'm looking for a way to make it work, if possible.

DVD-RW/+RW using Matrix Infinity

Hi,

I had installed a Matrix Infinity on my PS2 a few years ago and it's been working fine although I can't use any rewritable media (DVD-RW/DVD+RW).

Ahem...

but converting NTSC to PAL gives a smaller picture... (640x480 inside a 768x576)... I have no idea what you get for doing the opposite but chances are you get a cropped image.

A Good Advice.

I'm sure that there are many people around you that work in places where people...

What?

Weak laser is normally the result of burnt coils and not bad circuit...
What you need is to replace is the coils or the entire laser unit but there is also a good chance that you burnt the LA chip...

Cables

He should try a different A/V cable and if this doesn't help then he should go back to Sony... If he's lucky the system is still under warranty.

Should be fine

I did a small research on places about a year ago and he came out very positive so I ordered a laser unit from him and I had no problem with it.
I should point out though that my discussions with...

No Problem

It overwrites the old ones.
There is a certain limit for the number of rewrites flash memory can take but that's way more than the number of bios updates team matrix is ever going to release....

Think twice...

What you really wanna do it try to decrease the power used by the laser... putting a DVD-RW increases it significantly....

How else could you backup DVDs?

PS3 and Revolution should be fully backward compatible...
It's undoubtable that Sony did it this time......
