Playing games from China on US PS2

I'm asking this question for a friend of mine... no really!

My friend's father works in China. My friend owns a US PS2. His father purchaced some games in China and they do not work in his PS2.

If I understand correctly, Asian games are NTSC format (he lives out of state so I can't check the labelling on the game itself) the same as the US, so I'm guessing it's a region issue.

Is there anything my friend can do to play Chinese games on a US PS2? Will the Region X DVD work for this purpose? Am I correct in my assumption that Chinese games are NTSC format?

Any help or explanations would be appreciated. Thanks.

China

China uses PAL, not NTSC.
Japan and South Korea use NTSC.
