Info on RJ45 LAN Cable - CAT 5 Patch cable ? Please Help Someone
OK, I have my Broadband adapter but cannot get it to connect to my PC. I have a network card installed in the PC and am connecting it to my DC using a CAT 5 patch cable which is, I believe, a straight connection, that is, pin 1 on one end of the cable connects to pin 1 at the other and so on. problem is that the light on the network card doesn't light up when I have both machines on, indicating that the PC isn't getting the right echo to tell it that asomething else exists on the system.
In a response to a previous post I made on the subject, Xena said that I need a cross over cable. Is this different to the one I have and if so, how, is there a cross over of pin connections. Please advise me, and if appropriate, tell me what the pin connections should be so I can swap them around. Thanks themadsinger |

Hey man, a cross over cable is a patch cable usually used to connect two hub or switches togeather, the only thing that is different is that the wires inside are the oposite. so if your cable went blue green brown red, then on the other end it would go red brown green blue.
These things are pretty easy to come by. If you can't find one, you could always make your own... -SpeZ |

OK, do I reverse all 8 wires. I am looking at the patch cable I have and the wires are configured the same on each end - white, orange, green, lblue, dblue, dgreen, brown, black. So do I need to cut the cable and re-solder so white goes to black, orange to brown etc ?

Trouble is finding a cross-over cable int he UK...well I can;t find anywhere that even knows what one is!
Which side is pin 1 of the cable. If I look at the socket from the bottom (opposite side to the clip for locking into the socket) is pin 1 on the left end or is that pin 8 ? Thanks |
