Just because a conversion doesn't involve a custom installer, doesn't mean it's any less of a conversion. Conversions here have purpose of: either splitting a DVD-based game to CDs or the other way around (and this is most often used by modifying files already provided by publisher on the official media) or alternatively creating a custom installer for the game, tailored for a particular media type (which is often the only way a game can be converted for backup on a physical media, given that a substantial majority of the PC market nowadays are digital downloads). This post here instructs how to turn the official six CDs of Dreamfall into a DVD backup and THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. It belongs here.

Granted, in my opinion the conversion listing should be thoroughly revamped to make it easier to find a conversion of a specific type or by a specific author but that is a story for another post which I'll write soon. I was intending to write such an appeal/request anyway but never got around to. Well, you inspired me to do that so I will, soon. Today or tomorrow by the latest.

Keep in mind the game's initial release date was April 17, 2006. (There was an error on the forums long ago, some conversions were lost, this conversion must have been re-found and re-posted by myself in 2013)
This type of conversions was what we started doing first here at Fileforums.
The very first conversion done here by myself was the game 'Unreal Tournament 2003'. In Australia the game was not released on 1 DVD, it was released on 5 or 6 CD's and I used to get annoyed installing all the discs 1 at a time. So I simply converted it to 1 DVD and tried it, it was a very simple conversion back then and it worked fine, I could now install the game from 1 DVD. From there we all started converting our Multiple Disks Games to 1 Single DVD.
Originally we did not need to create a 'Custom Installer' as the original installer worked fine.
Things progressed in the gaming industry and games got bigger meaning we had to start putting some games on more than 1 DVD5.
Eventually games started being released on DVD9. Again in Australia we were a little behind the rest of the world so we did not have DVD9 Burners. We started going backwards .. taking 1 DVD9 Disc and converting it to Multiple DVD5. DVD5 back then was way cheaper than DVD9.
Again games continued to get even bigger to the point we started creating our 'backups' by converting to Multiple DVD9 discs.
Custom Installers started being created to mainly get around 2 obstacles ... either the original installer did not recognise 'Spanning to Multiple Discs' or because the game was so big it needed Compressing to fit on a reasonable number of discs.

Ive been doing the Index for many years, had many suggestions and have made many changes. There are reasons why the Index does not list Authors or specific conversion types. Main reason is 'time'. It takes a lot of time to maintain the Index on a regular basis. Simply editing a name of a conversion to add how many DVDs it needs is time consuming when the original poster does not list names correctly. You will notice the format of the Game Titles in the Index is the same for every game. ie: (2xDVD5), (2xDVD9) etc etc.
Every game name has to be edited as not everyone posts their game titles in exactly the same format. Some like to try and make the game title as long as possible to include everything about the conversion, sounds like a good idea at the time until you have to browse thru the Index and nothing makes sense.
Just a simple thing like adding an Authors name means that some authors would never get a look in. If names were added then members would just scroll down the list and find the name 'yener90' (just an example of a name) and use his conversion and no-one else's work would ever get looked at.
If yener was still around many would just use his work, people like omdj, houcine80, GTX590, mausschieber, pakrat2k2 may not have had a chance to show off their amazing work. (there are many many more who create amazing work, but I cant list every member lol)
By leaving out the Authors name and the type of conversion allows people to look at each conversion for a particular game. The original posted Game Title is left exactly how it was posted by the original author on the actual conversion page. So members can take their time and choose what best suits them for their purpose. Its all about choices.
The Index was only created as a means to easily see what conversions have been created for each game so you did not have to use a Search function on site. All the Index really needs is The Game Title and how many discs it uses. This decision was made long ago to prevent the Index having titles like this:

Quote:
Alan Wake 1 language English Only + DLC + update 1 + Update 2 + update 3, Biks Resampling Custom Installer CUI v2 *By { Yener90 }edited by Bamse+*UltraARC* By razor12911, [3xDVD5 + SREP + LZMA + INNO CIU] graphics by GTX590 splash by NamelessOne, "Complete Edition"
The above is just an example name with example members names used but I think you will get my point. Keep it simple and easy to read in the Index without cluttering it with information overload.
If for example there are 7 conversions posted for the same game then it will be a lot quicker for you to click 7 links (all posted in the same place for you) than it would be for me to 'edit' 7 game titles. Each link 'you' click will take you to the page where you can easily read whats involved and used. Will take me a lot longer to edit or add that info to the Index.

Remember, I am here to make things easier for you, so in return your job is to make things easier for me, creating more work for me to do is not making things easier and is not saving me time. And most importantly we are not paid to do this. I volunteer my time to do the Index so you don't waste time searching.
