Can you use BBrip with a laptop

I just got a Broadband Adapter the other day and i followed the instructions for using bbrip to rip games up to the part where it says to turn on the dreamcast with dcload-ip 1.0.0 and the cpu
then set the ip etc. but when it says to go to connect on bbrip it says please wait and a minute later it gives an error.What do I do?

did u assign an ip address for yr pc? "192.168.0.1"
