Need 360 modding questions answered

So with the original 360, it was nice because I could back up the games to a hard drive so the kids wouldn't ruin the discs. Needless to say, the discs are fine and the system is still working!

Now, I'm interested in the 360 and will want to do the same thing if possible. The sticky at the top of the page is way too old for any accurate information. So, where do I go for more information? What is the deal with hard drive space and chips and backing up discs?
