Medal of Honor: Airborne (UK) (DVD9 to 2x DVD5)

Medal of Honor: Airborne - UK RETAIL DVD9 to 2 x DVD5
=========================================

The conversion by poseden is not based on the UK RETAIL DVD as some of
the CABS are named different to the UK version, so I've made this for
the UK version.

Also note this cannot be put on 1 DVD5 by removing foreign files for two
reasons:

1. After removing all foreign languages from the CABS it totals about 4GB
but there is still 1GB left on the DVD that needs to be installed!

2. The game installs ALL Foreign languages as part of the install even
if you chose your native language, so you CANNOT get this on a DVD5.

After playing with this for 2 hours and getting nowhere, install
would always rollback at the end, I found out from the EA Forums that
your Windows Firewall service needs to be running as the numpties who
coded the installer try to add MOHA to the Windows Firewall Exception
list even if it's not running. If this service is not running then the
installer errors and rollsback the install without telling you WHY,
EA you bunch of fucking tossers!!

So, if your Windows Firewall service is disabled like mine was, you'll
have to goto Start --> run and type 'services.msc', then locate the
'Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)' service and enable
it then start the service, this will allow the game to install.

Instructions:
=========

First DVD (3.83GB):

Make a temp folder, eg DISK1, and copy the following folders/files
from the DVD into it:

Folders:

Autorun
DirectX
PhysX
Punkbuster
Redistributable
Support
UnrealEngine3\MOHAGame\CookedMovies
UnrealEngine3\MOHAGame\pb

Files:

autorun.dat
AutoRun.exe
autorun.inf
Config.cab
Content1.cab
Content3.cab
Content5.cab
EASetup.exe
Group0.cab
Group1.cab
Localiz4.cab
MOHA.ico
Setup.exe
Splash.cab

Second DVD (3.57GB):
----------

Make a temp folder, eg DISK2, and copy the following folders/files
from the DVD into it:

Folders:

UnrealEngine3\MOHAGame\CookedPC

Files:
Content6.cab
Content7.cab
ContentA.cab
ContentM.cab
ContentN.cab

Now, edit autorun.dat like poesedens post mentions:
http://fileforums.com/showpost.php?p=345592&postcount=1

except you edit DiskId 23 to 28 to say 'DISK 2' instead of DiskID 10-17!

Alternatively you can just delete all the 'DISK 1' entries and the installer will
error asking for 'Content6.cab', just put the 2nd DVD in and click 'Retry' and
the install will complete.

Burn the contents of folder DISK1 to a Re-Writable DVD with volume label
'DISK 1' then burn the contents of folder DISK2 to a Re-Writable DVD with
volume label 'DISK 2'. Test the install making sure the Windows Firewall
service is running! To fully test the install then uninstall the following
Software:

AEGEIA PhysX
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable

and run the install, it should install the above two programs for you proving the installer is working!

If it installs OK then put any cracks on whatever disk you want and burn to
2 x DVD-R. If you want English to be the default install language then
download the attached 'localization.zip' file and extract it into the support
folder, overwrite the existing file!

That's it! But why not just back it up to a DVD9 and save the hassle you cheap fucks
Attached Files
File Type: zip localization.zip (1.0 KB, 294 views)

first good job BarryB

if u can run Windows Firewall service from BarryB info try this:
Quote:
To enable the service: Start Menu -> run - > “services. msc”

The name of the service is “ Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)”

To start it, right click on the service name and click “Start” in the menu. Then proceed to install the game normally.

If you are unable to start the “Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)”, ensure these services which it depends on are started, checking in this order:

- Remote Procedure Call (RPC) (The next two depend on this service)
- Network Connections
- Windows Management Instrumentation
edit
run fine under windows 2000
again simply protection to force xp or vista ;P

and first installing [orginal autorun.dat] problem with this firewall service
second install [edited autorun.dat] non problem with this service
game install correctly

BTW if it hasnt been mentioned, you can disable the firewall roll back.

Open up the autorun.dat with orca.

Goto InstallExecuteSequence

Right at the bottom is the firewall controlls, delete last entry to disable roll back, or delete all the firewall entries at the bottom to be sure.

If you want to manually start/stop the Firewall Service I found you can create a BAT file and use the Windows 'SC' command, just put the following in a bat file:

sc start sharedaccess

This will START the service if it's set to manual or not already running

sc stop sharedaccess

This will STOP the service once it's running.

If the service is DISABLED you'll need to set it to 'Manual' to use those commands!

Regarding Volume labels for this game I've found if you OMIT the volume label the install will fail and if the volume label does not have a SPACE in it then it will fail also?? So create Volume Labels like 'Disk 1' and not 'Disk1'!!!

Medal of Honor Airborne (US Version)

1) Create 2 Temp folders on your hardrive.
Name one of these folders: DISK 1. This will be the name (Label) of DVD1.
Name the other folder: DISK 2. This will be the name (Label) of DVD2.

Disc 1:
2) Copy the following folders from the DVD9 disc to the DISK 1 folder:

Autorun
DirectX
PhysX
PunkBuster
Redistributable
Support
UnrealEngine3

Inside the UnrealEngine3\MOHAGame folder is a folder named ‘CookedMovies’. Delete this CookedMovies folder.

3) Also Copy the following files from the DVD9 disc to the DISK 1 folder:

autorun.dat
AutoRun.exe
AutoRun.inf
Content1.cab
Content2.cab
Content3.cab
Content4.cab
EASetup.exe
MOHA.ico
Setup.exe

4) Download and Install ‘Orca’
Once Orca is installed, Right Click the file ‘autorun.dat’ and from near the top of the menu choose ‘Edit with Orca’. (You may have to edit the properties of this file and untick the ‘read only’ attribute, but as it is copied to the hardrive it is probably already edited automatically).
NOTE: When you Right Click the autorun.dat file you may have to choose ‘Open With’, then ‘Choose Program’. If Orca does not appear in the list then use the Browse button and browse to where you installed Orca.
Once back to the ‘Open With’ window remember to Untick ‘Always use the selected program to open this kind of file’.
When Orca open the dat file you will see 2 window panes, go to the ‘Tables’ one on the left and scroll down to ‘Media’
Click on ‘Media’ this will show you the entries in the Right pane.
Change the VolumeLabel column entries for the DISKID 10-17 to: DISK 2
Then ‘Save’ it.

5) Using the Notepad create a text file and name it Serial.txt. Copy your serial to this text file.
Save the Serial.txt file to the DISK 1 folder.

6) Create another folder named Crack and copy your NoCD file to this Crack folder.

7) Burn the contents of the DISK 1 folder to a DVD with the Label: DISK 1

Disc 2:
8) Copy the UnrealEngine3 folder from the DVD9 disc to the DISK 2 folder:

Inside the UnrealEngine3\MOHAGame folder are 2 folders named CookedPC and Pb.
Delete these 2 folders.

9) Also Copy the following files from the DVD9 disc to the DISK 2 folder:

AutoRun.inf
Config.cab
Content5.cab
ContentA.cab
Group0.cab
Group1.cab
Localiz6.cab
MOHA.ico
Splash.cab

10) Using the Notepad open the Autorun.inf file and edit as shown below then Save it:

[autorun]
open=0
Icon=MOHA.ico
Name=Medal of Honor Airborne
[Special]
Disk=1
ProductGuiID={25F28E39-FDBB-11DB-8314-0800200C9A66}

11) Burn the contents of the DISK 2 folder to a DVD with the Label: DISK 2

To install:
Insert Disc 1 and start the install.
When prompted insert Disc 2
When game finishes installing click the ‘Finish’ button, you will then be prompted to insert Disc 1 again.
Insert Disc 1 again and click the ‘Retry’ button.

Note: Because Disc 1 is the last disc to be used it is better to put all patches and cracks etc on Disc 1.

If you're like me you don't like to have large files that are rarely used sitting in your hard drive, so I'd like to just add another 2xDVD5 method that allows you to fit all the patches onto the first disc. Note that this removes all non-English language files and is only for the UK edition of the game because that's what I have.
  • Follow this guide to remove JUST the non-English language files but leave the bonus movies, unlockables, PhysX, etc. since you need 2 discs anyway if you want to fit the patches. Make sure that you do NOT dummy the following files or else the game will not work:
    Quote:
    Ava_Pes_SFX_Async_ITA.xxx
    Hus_M1_SFX_Async_ITA.xxx
    Mar_Nij_SFX_Async_ITA.xxx
    Nep_Azv_SFX_Async_ITA.xxx
    Var_Fac_SFX_Async_ITA.xxx
    Var_Flk_SFX_ASync_ITA.xxx
    An easy way to dummy those foreign language files is to move those 6 files to a new temp folder, search the "CookedPC" folder for "_DEU", "_FRA", "_ITA" and "_SPA" files, dummy them all and move the 6 files back into the folder. Then you can safely repack the cabs.
    This should reduce the disc size to around 5GB. All credits go to Nicolo.
  • Then convert to 2xDVD5 as per the first post in this thread EXCEPT edit autorun.dat so that DiskId 22 to 28 say "Disk 2" (instead of 23 to 28) and put Content5.cab on the second disc rather than the first. All credits go to BarryB.
Optional sections:
  • When editing "autorun.dat" go to the "Error" section under "Tables", scroll down to "1302" under "Error" on the right pane and change "Message" to something like "Please insert next disc." This will change the text on the disc prompt.
  • Edit "autorun.inf" on the first disc, under the "[autorun]" section add:
    Quote:
    label=Airborne Disc 1
    Edit "autorun.inf" on the second disc, under the "[autorun]" section add:
    Quote:
    label=Airborne Disc 2
    This just looks a lot better when you have the disc in the drive.
  • In the "Support" folder on the first disk, edit "localization.inf" with Notepad so that it says this:
    Quote:
    [CONFIG]
    game=Medal of Honor Airborne
    studio=Electronic Arts
    exe=MOHA.exe
    NeedCDKey=yes
    [LOCALES]
    en-uk=1
    en-us=0
    [EASO]
    install=0
    [WEBURL]
    en-uk=http://www.ea.com/moh/airborne/index.jsp
    [RTPATCHURL]
    en-uk=http://www.ea.com/moh/airborne/community_downloads.jsp
    [TITLE]
    en-uk=Medal of Honor Airborne
    [README]
    en-uk=readme.en-uk.txt
    // REQUIRED SECTION
    //
    // One of the following strings listed below will be displayed on the CDKey dialog in the appropriate
    // language based on the number following the language prefixes.
    //
    // 1 - "Please enter the entire code found in the white box at the lower left of the back of the DVD/CD case."
    // 2 - "Please enter the entire code found on the back of the manual or CD/DVD case."
    // 3 - "Please enter the entire code found in the white box inside the DVD/CD case."
    //
    // Note: The first message will be used by default if a language entry is missing

    [CDKEY]
    en-uk= 2
    This will remove all the foreign languages and only leave English on the autorun menu. Since we've dummied all the foreign language files the game won't work if you install in another language.
    You might be wondering about this:
    Quote:
    [LOCALES]
    en-uk=1
    en-us=0
    I found that for some reason if you have just "en-uk=1", all the text in the DirectX installation step goes missing. You actually need to have another language there for the text to remain, but anything other than "en-us=0" would show the language on the autorun menu. Also if you have "en-us=1" the autorun menu shows just English but the installer defaults to the US version and tries to install that, which doesn't work on the UK game because of the different cab names.
  • In the "Support" folder on the first disc you can delete all the text files except "readme.en-uk.txt". Do NOT delete "localization.inf"! In the "EA Help" folder there are many folders corresponding to their respective languages. You may dummy all the files in those folders (leave the "en-uk" and "en-us" folders alone just in case) for a saving of 5MB of space when the game is installed.

This will leave you with a disc 1 of size 1.76GB and disc 2 3.28GB. Plenty of room to add the 1.2 (1.3GB) and 1.3 (1.05GB) patches (as well as your serial and a crack if you want) onto the first disc and leave you with a final size of 4.11GB. The install method is disc 1,2,1.

I recommend you test before burning, but it worked a treat for me. The final install size is 2.25GB smaller too (6.18GB), since the original game installs EVERY language onto your hard drive no matter which one you chose.

EDIT: Okay, I only just tested this again and it seems the patches can't update the modified English-only installation. Therefore this method is fine for single player-only installations and if you want to play online you'll need to install from your original disc.
