XENA, DevKev and others - Serial dreamrip prob

Hi,

I got a made up dc coders cable.. I followed XENAS page on how to rip.

After setting all the ports correct and all teh settings, I transfered dreamrip.srec and the borders
went red on the DC. I then set the port to 115k and loaded the macro, I then typed ok

All it did was have some weird text come up on the screen and nothing happened.
(its suposed to say track03 or something right? well it doesnt just all weird ¢£§¢ stuff)

I have been trying all day! I have uploaded some demos and they have worked
so I think the cable is ok. I am using Terraterm. Hyperterminal doesnt work at all.

Any ideas please? I also have tried it on many gd's .. no luck.

Ok I tried using HyperTerminal. Same problem.

What is interesting tho is that, because I was took along time the GDROM actually stopped spinning. And then when I hit ok to start to receieve it, the GDROM started spinning again.. like it was getting ready to copy... but it just gave some weird text on the screen again.
So I decided to try and save with xmodem anyways.. and I put in track03.iso.gz as the filename to save and it opened the transfer window but kept having "losing packet errors"

but as I said it just gets jumbled text when I hit ok, when its suposed to say the track name.

I have users hyperterminal and teraterminal and a fewothers..

ANY HELP PLEASE!!!!! ?!?!?! (

I had the same prob, would start rippin a game and then get say halfway through and then loads of characters come up and soon after the disk stops spinning.... I cleaned the cd and everything worked fine. By the way once the ripping has finished what does it say on the screen?

Hi, well it doesnt even START ripping the game.. it just has weird characters after I type in ok.

Iv etried heaps of discs, all clean. I have tried 3 diff computers, about 5 diff terminal apps. I can upload fine.. just the ripping doesnt work.

I can only think it could be either My dreamcast, or a bad serial cable? Or that cuz my dreamcast has a modchip (for imports) they are the only things I can think of.....

Any ideas or help please

i think it's the cable problem,i've heard many ppl said lik-sang cable **** " upload is ok but dowbload not! http://tools.geocities.co.jp/Playtown/2004/@geoboard/515.html

the only things i can suggest u was try download the rambooster,it's a freeware to free up yr pc memory,it's useful when ripping g**e, it can prevent hang up after a fews hour ripping and prevent the tterm stop without reason "at least for me"
also turn off program like anti virus, getright ,sw joystick and don't try to use other program or access internet when ripping

sorry for my bad english,i hopes this can help

It was wierd i had this problem just today and then it went away.... i think i got a bogus macro file in dreamrip... i downloaded it from another site and it worked perfect... the bad one was actually from this site... lol. funny thing is in the one that had the good macro... i found a messed up .srec file that was only sre... do'h!

another thing that caused this for me in the begining was that i swapped the discs in the dreamcast AFTER i started the tera term. in order for it to work for me i must do this before hand.

lik-sang cable gives me mad speed when ripping.. dont dis it. try not loading the macro (do it in the morning or something when you have all day to accept the tracks). alot of times for me when skipping tracks the disc doesnt have enough time to "spin up" and i guess it assumes the file isnt there or something. if you don't load the macro, you can wait a little while to get the file. note: i have no idea what i am talking about but it works for me so try it. choose 1K and binary on the recieve menu (tranfer|xmodem|recieve) and type in the file trackxx.iso.gz and start transfering. some games (gauntlet legends) gave me and a few other peeps who tried garbage when trying to rip so i don't know. try a different game

I don't think you understand.

I don't load the macro.. I dun even get to the accepting file part.

AS SOON as I type in ok some garbage text come sup and it wont do anything more.
I cant transfer a file.. cant do nuthing... I Have used about 10 diff games.

DReamcast Kev what capacators do u hav eon your liksang cable? 0.1uf or 47uf? and is it a max3232 chip or a max 3222 chip.

Thanks

Thanks, seems as tho dreamrip is ok, it goes RED borders on the sega screen.. so im thinking it's the cable. Hopefully will have the 0.1uf caps in and I hope that solves the prob. If not IM gonna go chuck this in the bin and buy another one.
