60 hours to rip with cable instead of 24 ?

I have now ripped the files from 2 GB roms using the serial cable (tony hawk 2 and Aerowings-airstrile), but instead of taking 24 hours, each one has more like 60. I have checked and the baud rate is definitely set to the maximum level both in terraterm and in the control panel on the pc. Anyone got any suggestions?

Secondly, as I said above I ripped airstrike which had just single iso file and nothing else. I had already done and got working Tony Hawk 2. As ther was only one iso file, I just used the command line extract track03.iso, got the files, followed the instructions for making the self boot and burned. Disk goes through the dreamcast and sega screens, has a couple of game screens then comes up with something like "file not found, please check and clean disk, reinsert and try again". Then goes to dc screen with the controller, memory card etc. Anyone have any suggestions as to what is going wrong.

Lastly, when I tried to rip Star Wars E1 racer and also Quake 3, after the first ISO file I just get a load of character rubbish in the terminal window. Why is this (I believe that voth of the games are CDDA - is this a problem with all such games)and what can I do to get around it.

Thanks in advance for any assistance / pointers that you are able to provide.

Are you using Windows 2000? The serial/parallel ports are extremely slow for some reason under that OS. I had the same problem (downloading took about 3-4 times longer than it should) until I set up a 98/2k dualboot.

ive done it on 98se and am now on 2k and it works perfectly... like i say, at times it hits up to 20kbps so its like 12-14 hours for most games.

I am using W98SE. I have just built another PC for a friend which I am testing at the moemt. Think I'll try on that one to make sure that it isn't my system that is the problem.

Can anyone help me on the other two problems. In particular, is there any way to get around the garbage which seems to come up when I tried to rip Quake 3 and Star Wars Racer. ripped the first track OK and then on the next got lots of garabge and download stopped.

1) make sure window system/com port2/is set at 115200

2) Try to set the FIFO buffer to the lowest speed

Change the FIFO-buffer settings within windows.

right click workspace - properties,
2nd “window“ , double-click the COM-port, your DC is connected to, 2nd “window“(port settings), click on “advanced“ and change the FIFO settings...
