The xbox firmware was hacked. It is not possible to play homebrewn stuff, but you can play any backups. (not released yet)

We all know that the xbox has a media check. This check stops a game that was not flagged for any dvd media, from being booted. Well, the check now flags all media as official xbox dvd's and always read as an official xbox dvd.

The xbe's need to be signed, so only copies of the official xbox games will only be able to be played.

edit: You should also know that since the hack reads media as official xbox media, it would be VERY hard for MS to detect if you are on a backup without reading the firmware. The media check will always come back true. Basically, this means that backups online is very much possible.

And the founder of this hack would like to try and make an xbox360 version.

Well, maybe it was all fake then. If you read the front page of x-s there is the links and whatnot. Now, he is saying that he won't release it.

It's kinda like the man in the desert who goes around telling people about a place where there is litterally an abundance of water, then when asked about its where-abouts, he won't tell.

There is no proof, there may not be any water, and we would all better off without that person. What a bastard.

I believe it is true but he keeps it from getting released so that xbl won't be screwed by a ****load of cheaters using the hacked firmware and replaced files on the disk. And undetectable by xbl too...

Read about the hack on x-s forums and also take a look at the forums they are talking about there.

Another reason to keep it from being released could be the fact that the X360 DVD firmware probably is very similar and thus making it possible to use the same aproach on the 360. It the hacked firmware would be released MS would probably make sure that all 360's shipped after that will have a different kind of firmware that is not reversable in the same way.
