Just got a new DC and boot disk doesnt work... is it a Anti-CDR DC?

I cant get anything to work I successfully copied "Hydras-BootCDV1.1_VGAPatch.nrg" with Nero 5.x and the DC just doesn't fo anything with it?

The CD size is 2.03 MB

and the label is:

DC_CD_LOADER1_1

can anyone offer help about this... I bought a DC yesterday. I will try making a boot disc with DiscJuggler - I downloaded the free version but the Write button is disabled... FFS.

How can I categorically tell if its an ant-cdr dc? Anything on the console?

There's no such thing as an anti-cdr DC, your boot disc is a coaster, try using a different version such as the clonecd one though the nero one in my opinion works better (loads with the DC having to do a lot less seeking than the CloneCD version). Where did you get the nero version from ? You might want to try d/l it from somewhere else.

The rumours about the non-CDR-booting Dreamcast have finally confirmed. It's already getting sold in Japan as the "Sakura War DC Dreamcast-Console". Anyway we are already able to modify it for playing backups so take it easy when you think about buying a DC-Console.

From ####://HigherVoltage.net:

Quote:
Sega announced that they will be producing a new line of DreamCast consoles, remade against piracy. These new models will have protection against the playing back of CD-R. They decided a change of hardware because the current DCs could play games burnt to CD-R with the use of a special software. As a side effect, MIL CDs are now also no longer useable in the new DCs.

Sega has already begun retailing these new DCs from the beginning of the "Limited Edition Sakura Wars" set, which was released December 28, 2000.

Nah, they do exist and probably I have bought one - got it yesterday.... is a Mod Chip the only solution... if so which one should I get, there are so many...??? Does anyonw have any experience of this which one do they reccomend?

There are no ANTI CD-R dreamcasts despite the previous post and if there are they are not in the US/Canada yet so that shouldn't be the problem. Try burning the boot disc using the settings Big Poppa says to in the big poopa help post in order to be sure a boot disc does not work in your Dreamcast. I had the same problem and realized that it was the setting I was using to burn. The nero version also did not work for me.

Man... Why don't you try the utopia format of the Boot disk? It works fine for me I just bought my dream cast last week! Oh yeah, they make these clone DC original pads up in canada for 15$ each! That's CDN 15$ !!! wow! i can't believe it's so cheap! It's the real thing. But too bad there's no options for other colors though. ehhe you only get the white color pad. but still, 15 bucks, that certainly kick ass.

Anyways, don't be lazy, try more methods in burning the Bootdisk!

Hi, im the poster of the first question - i was using a different PC for the post and I forgot my password..... anyway I think i'll try a failsafe way of finding out for real:

My contact has a boot CD and i'll get it off him, also my cousin has friends with a boot cd i'll get it off them. I'll also try out any other boot files from the net.

This is in UK.

-------------

On another note: the CDr's I do have, I tried all of them and they dont work without the boot CD... I know most of them are non-self-booting, but i'm sure at least one of them is self-booting.

Some of the CD's come-up on the music CD-Player screen with one track available to play (although nothing plays). Some of them have no music tracks. Are the ones with that single first track the self-booting ones?

I suspect that this is so. Anyway i'll try all the previous methods. thx.

I'm from the UK as well ! If the game image comes in .bin format then it needs the boot disc if it comes in a .cdi format then it's self-booting. I've had the music-player screen appear a few times myself always because I've forgotten to change the settings under the advanced tab in the diskjuggler burn screen from audio to mode 1.

all the new DCs are made to be anti-cdr.....if u so happen to have brought one recently that worked with cdrs..then thank yourself lucky that your retailer still has some old models in stock!! all the one news should have a new series number just like the psx did(500x, 700x...etc)...dun u people read, its been offically confirmed by sega! but then...its all in the bios so i guess its a matter of time before someone figures their way around that...just wait and be patience

Hey there... (I'm in UK) Im pretty certain that I have one of those lame new DC's, i've successfully made two Boot Disks, one with Nero and one with DiscJuggler. But there is still a certainty that they're coasters but all the indication is that they're fine (2.03Mb size with 3 text files when run on Windows). But I can't be 100% sure on this. I'll be certain tommorow when I try my friends Utopia Boot Disk. If it doesn't work I have three options:

1 - Either wait for a new bios crack (although I've searched and searched but there was no info on what mod chip they used and what other modifications they had to do to crack the bios),

2 - Sell my DC at Computer Exchange for £90 (bought my dreamcast for £150 thats $218.934)

3 - heres a tricky one... go to Advance Consoles and get it modded with a mod-chip [£50 = $72.98] and hope that by doing that it will enable the use of the Utopia Boot Disc. Although the mod itself will allow only run import games and will not run cdr's the man told me.

Its a long shot.... please give your opinions especially on the last one.

Aghh all this hassle, I'm seriously thinking of selling it. Games cost £40[$58.38] upwards. If I were to buy the games that I have/want it'd be over £1000. £V<|\ that $#1T. Thx.

BTW My DreamCast model number is HKT-3030. What are yours - ppl that have "working" DC's. Its at the bottom of yer DC. Thx. This would be a good identifier for everyone else who also have the same problems as me and avoid any more help messages on this topic - IF MY DC REALLY IS A NEW MODEL AND NOT JUST ME BEING A DUMBASS 8).

If your dc is really a anti-cdr versio, I suggest you go to a Video Rental Store, like over here, there's blockbuster. Rent a dc, then swap the guts. Voila!

Heh, im sure they check the bar code of the DC's coming in and out. They probably have learnt all those tactics from experience of the PS1/2 (getting a Japanese PS2 and then swapping it and running away into the sunset - or something along those lines and less funny) . Its a very good idea though, I must say. 8) U pirates sure are sly bastar*s. Sell your girlfriend for a Plextor 100x CD Burner!

The bar code is most likely placed outside of the dc, swap the insides. Take the guts of the rental and swap it with your dc.

Ah, the ingenuity never ceases to amaze me... 8)

I'm not too sure on that cos the Mod Chip is on the board that is molded onto the base of the DC (I think - according to the pics on Mod-Chip sites showing you instructions), so I cant just replace its innards (Although i'm not too sure on this).... anyway you can't take out the mod chip either and simply replace the old one (can you?).

[4]
OR:
[/4]

I can simply swap stickers on the machines.... ?
This method seems simple.... but it'll have to be a professional job, cos the stickers may not be the re-stick type and the "stresses" and "bends" that occur on most stickers when are taken off their original source are easy to see; when they (Blockbuster) check the bar code on return of the DC.

- Painstaking carefullness on the Extraction of the stickers must be met.

- Having said that, i'm sure some heavy duty glue or even super glue will suffice when re-sticking the stickers...

Hmmm... also another way is to take off the stickers (from the rented DC), photocopy them and then (if necessary) laminate them from your local photocopy-shop. Although the main metal shiny one may be a problem, since you cant photocopy that and you cant just leave it cos the model number is on that. So its best to stick to the previous "Sticker Removal" method.

I've looked over DC and cannot find a model number and/or barcode on the machine itself apart from the stickers - although most definitely one inside the machine I guess.

On a safety note - you dont soppose Blockbuster puts security stickers INSIDE the machines? Those magnetic ones so they can pass a scanner on the side and it reads the sticker? They might do... sure it invalidates the warranty of the machine but its their machine so it doesn't matter right? They obviously log who rented out what machine when and stuff.

On a down note, if this option does work, the sadness of replacing my shiny new DC with a banged-up-used-and-abused-and molested DC (with lots of angst and no respect for authority to add!) may be hard to take.

--------------------

Hmmm... interesting... I'll do that as a last resort sort of thing... I'll check out the Blockbuster in my area and see if they rent out DC's.
