Long answer:
You can "redirect" your IP address by using an intermediate gateway PC, which will need to have appropriate software installed (e.g. WinGate). However, this will NOT make your ping better. A "ping" is an ICMP message (ICMP echo request) which tests the time it takes for a message to be sent and returned to a remote PC. Pings are affected by your ISP, the backbone that your ISP uses, packet priorities (e.g. ICMP messages could get a better priority than normal messages, making you believe that you got a helluva connection, which in reality sucks). Using another intermediate PC to redirect your traffic will surely not make your ping better but much worse, as your data takes more time to be exchanged between your PC and the server if you're using a remote gateway Short answer: No, you can't improve your ping. Change your ISP if your pings are low Edit: Check these FAQs for more info: What is ping? http://www.dslreports.com/faq/2311 Improve your ping: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10599 Can ping be adjusted? http://www.dslreports.com/faq/1716 Last edited by thebluegr; 01-11-2005 at 02:54. |
