I wouldnt look for a chip until at least 6 months to a year after launch. PS2 was hard enough to crack at first. My guess is PS3 will be alot harder.

With time, anything can be cracked. Look at starforce 3 for example. But enough time and effort into anything, and it will be cracked/modded.

Well we would have to wait and find out what the PS3 will be like. More than less the ps3 will be modded. But as far as playing the copied ps3 games on your new ps3 might not happen. Far as I know (I could be wrong on this) but I think ps3 is using an new DVD format called Blu-Ray. And I think the Blu-Ray is from 24-52gbs an disk. And to find an Blu-Ray burner that will burn 24gbs dvds won't happen for an long long long time. So unless the modded PS3 would end up playing games on an Internal Hard Drive I don't really think backup ps3 games will happen for an long time, if not ever.

If the mod chip did load ps3 games off the hard drive like Xbox does, you would need an 500gb hdd, and that could run you around 200.oo+ USD, and if the games are 24gbs each, that would let you store around 20games, and that is even if the new Ps3 would support the standard Internal IDE HDD.

So only time can tell.
(I could be wrong on some of this information, so if someone could correct me if there is an problem please do so)

The PS3 is coming out next spring. Who's to say there won't be blu-ray burners then...? Hell if I know, but I don't think will have to wait that long. After all, developers need blu-ray burners to burn test copies of their games to run on PS3 dev kits/PS3, right?

Thats true DRAGoN.X they will need blu-ray burners to test their ps3 games.
But look at the PSP they use an UMD disk, and I have looked and can't find any type of an umd burner. So it is kind of hard to say what would be out to buy for the typical buyer.

If they do come out I think it would be too much money for the typical buyer, and the 24-52gb dvd disks might be almost as much as the Ps3 games.

But I am really not looking forward to mod my ps3 for game backups, I would do it for emulators and other features, but as far as game backups I might pass on that.

Plus if they did make it blu-ray, who's to say it won't have its own speacial cartage it would fit in to make the ps3 read it (kind of like an umd disk) that would help on people trying to copy the games.

Maby they tested those games from a memory card stick.

of what I've seen, Sony have a hell of a lot of work to do if PS3 is going to come out in Spring

A fancy wooden mock-up cabinet and a few fancy pre-renders don't make a console

It will be very interesting to see PS3 when it's released though - as of now though, I can't wait for my X360 to come in on the 2nd of December

I can't wait for my X360 at the end of november. Microsoft will have a hell of a lot to do to if they are releasing it at the end of November. Can't fck'n wait!!!

Sony are a mile behind at the moment - last I heard they couldn't even get the CELL working properly. Whether that's sorted now or not I have no idea - but Microsoft certainly seemed to have stolen all the hype (well, just for the moment anyway
