Dawn of War - Winter Assault (A Working Way No CD)
Please keep in mind this is for user who accualy own the the game and the exp. Dawn of War - Winter Assault
After 7 hours of no luck and reading other peoples ideas i came up with one and worked on 5 other computers. First Take your orginal game (Dawn of War - Winter Assault) and turn it into an BWI file. Second make a dir. on your computer ( c:\WA1 ) works really good (extract both cds into that one fold hence you turn a 2 cd exp into a pritty mucha dvd anyways both cd combined just double click auto run in that folder while that installs do this next step. Third use Daemon Tools V3.47 mount the BWI of cd 1 ( WA1 ) leave all Emulation options unchecked. Forth wait for install to finish now go into the dir where u installed the game ( X:/program files/THQ/Dawn of War ) (click on tools, then folder options click on view tab Check ( show hidden files and folders ). Now that pain in the butt file shows up scroll down and look for in the dawn of war folder (and find this file ( Disk1Check ) done't delete just click on the name and and put a space then OLD so looks like this ( Disk1Check OLD ). Last now your done start up the game as you normaly and enjoy. (the dir of the game cd on your computer has to stay or the game its self acts funny) This will work till a accual programer makes a no-cd crack but till thena nd if thsi works for you you can thank Maxtor102 |

Done exactly as you said, bu same error as usual here: "original disc not found or verified"
And if i play by the icon on the desktop it even reinstall the Disc1check file, even if the renamed one is still in the dir... Last edited by Poldo; 27-09-2005 at 01:29. |

Mini Image
After reading through the previous thread about getting Winter Assault to work and having no success and then reading this post, I have done the following:
I have downloaded the mini image linked in the previous thread and mounted this with Daemon Tools v3.47. I have Daemon tools installed with a driver name that is different from the default (it asks for the driver names when you install it). I don't know if this makes a difference or not. I also have the Daemon Tools virtual drive set up so that it's the first CD/DVD drive on my system (I drive). My real DVD drive is set up as J drive. Once again I don't know if this makes a difference, but it helps ensure that the Daemon virtual drive is the first one that the game looks at when searching for the game CD/DVD. Lastly I have renamed the file Disk1Check.EXE found in the main game folder to Disk1Check.EXE.bak so that the game cannot run it. Upon running the Winter Assault exe file (W40kWA.exe) it sits there with a reading CD icon for about a minute and then finally loads. Note that on my machine the shortcut to Winter Assault that was placed on the desktop does NOT link directly to the exe. I had to create my own shortcut to do this. Your mileage may vary. This is basically what Maxtor102 just did, only I'm using the mini image, and not the full Alcohol image. Post Edit: As a final note I also have the v1.40 Dawn of War No-CD exe installed. I don't think this has any bearing on getting Winter Assault to run since it has it's own exe, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Last edited by Comothinon; 27-09-2005 at 01:51. Are you running W40kWA.exe from the game folder (or from a shortcut that you've created). Don't use the shortcut that the installer makes.

I'm not certain then...
I'm not sure what your problem is then. It works fine for me.
I did, however, install Anti-Blaxx (mentioned in this thread ) last night and messed around with that for a bit (using the hide option, not the delete option) before disabling it. It may have made some permanant change to my system that I'm not aware of that is allowing the game to run in coordination with the above steps, but I don't think that's the case. Post Edit: Btw, make sure you don't have the Winter Assault CD/DVD in your CD/DVD drive. =P Last edited by Comothinon; 27-09-2005 at 02:15. Reason: Ah yeah... |

Hello all,
Yesterday the game cafe I hang out at got 2 new computers. We installed DOW:WA off of a burned backup cd, and then mounted the mini image and ran it. For some reason, it didn't work. Then, we inserted the original CD, ran the game, exited, and then ejected the original, mounted the mini image once again, and the mini images works. It seems that you have to run the game once with the original CD before the mini image can function. Probably a feature of the protection... Anyways, just telling you guys what I found -rendari. |

WA on W64
I am trying to run Winter Assault on Windows x64, but it hangs once loaded. Initially event log said that tandpl.sys was being blocked as it is not supported on Winx64, so I renamed the file so it is inaccessible. I am guessing it is part of the copy protection system, as the game still doesn't work.
I don't particularly care about running without the original CD (as I have it right here in front of me)... I just want to be able to run it at all. I registered with the official website from the game, and despite saying they respond within 24 hours I've heard squat. Is it a copy prevention system causing this? If so why are they so naff by not supporting software that early adopters (e.g. high spenders) are likely to use? So far Microsoft official support have been equally slow, but I expect that. |

If its a .sys its prolly the copy protection, since the game doesnt need to run in ring0 :P. Unless of course, the programmers are crazy ASM coders, but even then it would take YEARS lol.
