Splinter Cell Chaos Theory No-Cd

First of all I am very disappointed with Ubisoft. I am a father of three gamers (they are not children anymore!) and since the beginning I always bought original CD for every software. I like the SC saga and I enjoy very much playing it but I think that for Ubisoft having children is absolutely not I problem. Of course I disagree 100% with this point. If I still have all my games and software running is just because I always made a backup copy of them. You know how children treat any kind of cd, they will destroy it immediately since they never put them in the case. Anyway, all my games works thanks to GAMECOPYWORLD and I still have all the originals without any scratch thanks to them. Games are nice, but expensive also.
I have a small problem. My SCCT doesn't even start (I can find the exe file in the task manager but nothing happens) and of course I mailed to the Ubisoft explaining the problem. I'm still waiting the reply after 4 weeks. Then I spoke to a very close friend who is a computer engineer and he explained to me that all the troubles are because of the Starforce copy protection. I took my time and I surfed to find some information about it. Point number one: I "PAY" for a game, that means I become the owner. If I want to make a thousand copy of the game for myself and destroy one copy everyday, this is MY business. Point number two: having a technician to my house telling me that the problem why the games doesn't launch is because of the copy protection (starforce) makes me really upset. From now on I wont buy even half a copy with a protection that doesnt even let me play with my game, or gives me the possibility to make a copy or to play without the cd. Am I the only one to think this way or is there anybody out there thinking like me? I know that piracy is a big problem, but why do we have to pay the consequences? If someone else kills somebody, do I have to go to jail too?
My questions are these: I would kindly appreciate somebody who can help me with my problem with SCCT, that can point me to a place where maybe we can vote against cd protections like Starforce and a place where I could ask for some help always with my SCCT, at least to make it work.

Thans in advance for the help.

Talking right !

Very nice written ! What you say is exactly what i think of StarForce, a stupid virus that calls itself a copy protection and even destroys and manipulates your software, drivers and even your OS...
I will never buy any software that is protected by SF....even if it's Half Life 3 or Doom 4

That's wrong! You don't become the owner of the game, you only get the license to play the game.
The manufacturer is not obligated to give you the ability to make a backup copy of the cd/dvd.
If the game don't work send it back to UbiSoft and reclaim your money, but stop crying like a baby about StarForce (I can't hear it anymore !!!).

First of all thanks to Grumpy (I signed for the petition) and muJi.fiGHt3r for the support. To GLH: This is exactly my point: the license. We shouldn't speak about a lincese for games. Games are not like DVD movies. You have to install them to your computer, that where it becomes "our" business. I pay for the license to use a game or a software, not a license to install strange programs in my computer that avoid also to play the software itself. EULA is just an obligation for legal troubles but we all know that nobody will fully read it or fully understand it (which is a lot more important); maybe only if you have a lawyer close to you everytime you install a software.

I'm trying to get more than this but it's not easy for legal reasons, I will suggest in the future (if I may) if you don't want to see "babys'crying" to read other threads that maybe concern you more than just a simple "license" problem.

The guy is also a moderator and its his job to make sure threads are 100% legit.

And yes he is right, if the EULA states you can make 1 copy of the disc then you are allowed to, if they say no, then you cant. Its amazing how many people think cause it doesnt say they are allowed means they can.

And only 1!

And GLH is right also, you bought a license to play the game on 1 machine. You do not own the game, Ubisoft do still own the game rights, as said you only bought the right to play it and own the media that you have, not the contents of the media.

My question is now:
If this is right what you say (and it is I guess) isn't CD2DVD making (whatever the activity itself is called) illegal too ?
You change the content, and you don't own the content, is this legal ?
I always thought that what I buy belongs to me but i think that's wrong, especially in case of games...
Please make this a little bit more clear for me, DABhand

DABhand has a good point of view. From now on lets talk about a different subject: the rights. Everything revolves around this subject. I make a game then when I sell it I decide the contract between the seller and the customer (which is absolutely normal). This is of course to defend the rights of the crew who created a software and also to defend the customer. But then with this criteria we fall down to a deeper subject. I could litteraly write everything inside the contract and when a user agree by pressing a button is almost like signing the contract. From this point of view the customer doesn't have any right. Coming back to GLH subject I can't even send it back to Ubisoft, because this should be done within a limited period of time. Meanwhile I was waiting at least for an answer from Ubisoft, maybe just to say that there is no solution to my problem. This did't happen even if the contract says that they should reply within 48 hours (this in Italy, where I bought the game). But then again inside the "Terms of use" they manage to put that: "UBI.COM MAKES NO WARRANTY THAT ANY SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE OR ERROR-FREE". With just a click you have to agree otherwise you can't even become a Ubisoft Member and therefore you can't contact them to have any support.

Ending this story I pay 60€ for what? To buy a disk it doesn't even work and worst of all in case it was working I have to control my children that they are not going to destroy a DVD game, the only thing I did is to pay to own anything at all. Just a licence, which I signed... From now on no more signatures from me, I will still buy games that have small or no protection at all, so I will still continue to grow my small library with original software without worrying not to scratch a DVD that doesn't even belong to me...
Then, where are our rights ?

- Maaan! I ate 10 boxes of sweets yesterday. Great! There was no sugar in it. Why? Haha! I throw the box away without reading the ingridients-list... So... I donīt know there is sugar in it. So, it means it is sugar-free...

- Whoaw! Robbed a bank yesterday. Canīt be illegal... Or does anyone read the complete list of laws... or fully obay them?!

- I am ignoring the english grammar and vocabulary. Do I write without mistakes? I think so, because I never learned any rules...

Bored of this discussion...

Because...

... the Threadtitle was about SCCT and not about the pro and cons of eula/copyright/doīs-and-dontīts...

Hmm isn't this site dedicated to copying games, making a copy of the original in order that it can be kept safe?
GameCopyWorld, that does mean to copy and or play without the original yes?

So please stop acting like you're the personal representative of the RIAA or whatever body is out there. To keep us from protecting OUR property, that is the medium containing film, game, application whatever we PAID for and would not be replaced should it get damaged from everyday usage.

Is this site here to help us combat this, if not what is the point of this forum?
Warez or not, you are in breach of copyright law by helping in anyway full stop.

My aim and intention is to stop this unproductive "chit-chat". Sure, I am here because I also would like to have backups of my originals. Latest one: Worms 4 Mayhem. Newest and nastiest Starforce (seems to detect sfn - even original disc says insert me in another drive when using external usb).

But each day a new thread about the "virus" starforce and the discussion if it is legal that starforce installs itself DOES NOT HELP making backups.

Right?! So letīs get back to the threadtitle. No No-CD/DVD/DirectLoad crack out there. Backup will work with external USB/SFN method. Use search button.

Grood night fellas.

Note: I donīt want ANY flame wars, so I will give no further respond to this thread.

Actually your wrong.

By re-reading some of your posts, im inclined to think your a pro-warez user, and probably never buy anything. I may be wrong offcourse, but that is the picture you portray in your posts.

This site isnt about COPYING games, but making backups of your games. Very 2 different things all together.

Not necessarily, since you arent amending the data (i.e. changing its coding) but yes on when you change the installer file (usually .msi).

Since most conversations can be straight copy and paste jobs, that isnt illegal as you havent amended the data that was on the other media.

However, like I said changing the installer file, whatever it may be, to install a game that multispans so it reads the same disc is illegal as you changed the data. But making your own installer file from scratch to install the game isnt, since its yours.

Weird but hey hum :P
