I still haven't been able to soft mod my xbox and I've been hearing about the risks of loosing that hd. So my question is.... If I got my hands on some xbox files (eeprom and all), a new HD and some software to create the new hd (with evox and all), could it be done without ever needing the original hd?
If the answer is yes, than is anyone in the mood to give some files. ^_^ |

You won't loose the HD only because of softmod, who told you that? Well you COULD loose it IF you do the hotswap method but thats another thing.
Go get Krayzies Softmod installer and any of the working games and you will be fine with about everything. When it comes to HDD upgrade with softmod I am not able to help you...

Kosmiq, I thought there was another way to soft mod the xbox without the use of a saved game. Also why would I need to bother with hotswaping. My question was if there was a way of doing a softmod without even touching the old hd. In other words creat a new softmoded hd that was created out of some files and installer CDs and did not involve the old hd.

Oh I must have misunderstood your post then.. When saying "loosing that HD" I was thinking "kill it"...
Hotswapping is another way to softmod but thats pretty risky... Other than using savegame exploits I can't really think of any to be honest. The thing is that you must be able to launch EvoX before you can get FTP access to the hdd.. Here's something about changing hdd. You would be able to create a softmoded hd by using a temporary chip (preferably solderless), put it in your xbox, change hdd, power on, use SlaYers and install a chip requering installation and after that get krayzies, put it in the dir it is supposed to be, add that dir into the EvoX menu so that you can start that install. Start that install, complete it, power off, remove chip, power in with softmod install... You could also do the same thing using another xbox but that would require swapping EEPROMs and I am not to comfortable with such things... If you are not still happy with my answers (my knowledge in this matter is somewhat limited) go check out www.xbox-scene.com in the forums and stuff, they'll provide better answers and knows just about everything...

Why would you even think of softmodding ??
A no frills cheap mod costs less than $20 ... If you mess up doing a softmod, your risking loosing your xbox. |

Some people don't like opening the xbox. Others already own the things needed to do it and don't see a point. Some people softmod just so they can use cheats.
I have tried a softmod, but don't like it. Besides, both my xbox's can do a split tsop mod. It would cost be about 3 bucks to do (for the spdt switch)
